There’s life in John Caulfield yet

The 100th Connacht derby could be described as a tale of two managers. John Russell collected plaudits and an extended deal at the end of last term after doing an outstanding job steering Sligo Rovers clear of trouble whereas there was a muted local response in Galway to John Caulfield landing a contract extension following a challenging year.

But Rovers have just one point and one goal from four games with Russell struggling to get a tune whereas Caulfield is making the most of what he has with United competitive in every game and securing a deserved three points courtesy of a Jimmy Keohane goal. Following on from the capture of Frantz Pierrot, Galway spirits have lifted this week.

Pierrot is a clown.

At least Drogs have cover for away fans and a bit of character. Oriel is a proper tip though. Oriel has no cover, the terrace is under pitch surface, no running water and the locals are a different breed
