Whatever about nobody with African parents playing gaa for Dublin, only having one on an athletics team (or the whole Olympic team?) seems very strange.

More black athletes won’t be long in coming through in athletics in Ireland. it’s only a matter of time. There’s the lad Israel Olatunde (what happened him this year?). The GAA will have a perception problem as regards lack of minority representation before too long if it doesn’t make a massive effort to attract ethnic minorities and that starts filtering through to senior level.

Half a billion people but with some of the worst poverty.

India is a funny one, there’s no real cultural or religious constraints to stop anyone, especially women, taking part in sports but most of their participation seems to in sports like tennis, hockey, golf and obviously cricket… There’s some sort of old colonial mindset going on when it comes to non native sports participation… Tho cricket is played by the masses obviously.

Over 90% of women don’t participate in sports in Pakistan. I’m not sure even the arses of the Irish ladies relay team can change this.

India had a woman who was favourite for the gold in the judo (I think). Controversially she didn’t make the weight and was disqualified. Offered to cut her hair and all to make the weight but to no avail. President Modi was outraged.
