Making Hill 60 all seated?

I thought it was so called because dubs are allowed 16 players?

I’ve done my checks.
He’s right…

That is class. I’d heard that it was rebuilt at a club grounds before but never actually saw the finished article.

This is as good a thread as any - what would be the capacity of Croke Park if instead of Hill 16 it was a perfect bowl? What’s the capacity of just the Canal End part of the ground?

Did a bit of digging. The Davin End has the same capcity as the Hill at present - c.13,200. So if it was redeveloped to be a full bowl and not a horseshoe (cc @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy) the stadium would have in or around the 82,300 it has now.

Excellent investigative work, I appreciate the effort put in, rather than just bandying random figures about like @Batigol.

i think the major advantage of this though would be that the stadium would be complete

Would the Hill not be hampered by the railway line and houses?

Croke Park were able to develop over the canal but I dont know whether Irish Rail would give away the airspace. Even if they did the back of the stand would be close to the back gardens of the houses on Clonliffe Road and the problems that would cause.

It will never happen.

The major disadvantage would be destroying public transport infrastructure

Ah yeah I don’t think it will ever happen, was just curious to know what the capacity would be in theory.

yeah its the residents on Clonliffe road that are the problem. With the orientation of the stadium, they would lose their right to light as the height of the hill and it being the northern side, means it would block sunlight out onto Clonliffe Road. Plus, its debatable whether it would even fit within the site and if it extended out over the rail line, it probably would take up a few rear gardens at least. Some houses off Jones’ road also borderline into any development area too.

If it were to be developed, why not roof that end for a start. The Cusack side could be lowered and then perhaps build out over the railway line so that it’s even. The capacity would go down to say 65k but that’s more than enough for the GAA as they only sell it out maybe three times a year.

Why does it need to be roofed?

Because it’s the 21st century?
