Hard to have Ferguson in the true elite when he couldn’t even win a game at the 1986 World Cup. Handed a team that had qualified and failed as an international manager.

Hansen got Scotland eliminated in the 1982 World Cup when he careered into Willie Miller to present the Soviet Union with the match winning goal.

Scotland only needed to beat Uruguay by any scoreline to qualify. Uruguay had a man sent off after 2 minutes. The game finished 0-0. That was Scotland’s only point at that World Cup.

Hansen me hole.
- Managed his country at a world cup finals, lost narrowly to eventual finalists Germany and a star studded danish team and narrowly failed to make the second round for the only time in their history. All this after taking over following the tragic death of the manager at short notice. Incredible fortitude.
