Mayo - let's keep this going

“Elbows” O’Connor seriously punching above his weight there

Was genuinely thrilled when Mayo won Sam. The icing on the cake was he wasn’t involved. All the battles down the years that Dublin had with that Mayo team O’Connor was always guaranteed to be the one with the sneaky shite

Looking forward to Gob Hennelly bringing Sam to the Raheny corporate lunch tomorrow

Please God Brian Howard will be bringing it to next year’s event :crossed_fingers:

There’s been drink taken.

Disappointing homophobia as well. What goes in sober comes out drunk my grandfather used to say

Jesus she’s gorgeous

Are you mad? No drinking on a school night.

Even though they were losing to Dublin, they were getting them seriously rattled.

At least the Donaghy and Gooch thing made sense. But tis ripe for supporters of a team with Connolly and McMahon to go on about a bit of roughness from a fucking corner forward they bet like a dog every time they met

Philly probably gouged his eye out as well.

The tour of every school in the County of Mayo began on Tuesday.
It will travel to 3 or 4 schools per day, 4 days per week, every week until it concludes on December 21st.

The reason Mayo didn’t win All Irelands in the Horan/Rochford era were Cillian O’Connor and Aidan O’Shea.

Two guys who consistently showed themselves as passengers in big games.

Or yknow, they came up against a doped Dublin outfit in an era of slop football and didnt have the generational talent they had when they came this year

Narratives are funny like that.

No just the fact that both COC and AOS were passengers with massive egos that took away from the team.

AOS last action this years was to lose them their match v Tyrone, up until then Mayo looked very unimpressive. Since that game he never saw a minute and they looked a completely different team. He played in 7 all Ireland finals, many as a forward and never even scored a point. Was the Covid All Ireland where he hit a 14 yard makrk off the post?

O’Connor just didn’t have the pace or left foot to get away from players. His whole game relied on tap over frees and Mayo’s rampant half back line rampaging through and being on hand to tap the ball into the net when they broke the line and have men over. When they needed him to step up and win ball and get big scores he was generally found wanting.

And all I said was you can twist the truth to suit a narrative, just like you did.

Life and sport, is never that easy, and cant be viewed through a simple prism. Much like Galway under Joyce, they could and should have gotten over the line, but sometimes, things dont run for you. Like maybe two own goals. Or a sending off which had nothing to do with either O Connor or O Shea.

And some Mayo players put this years success down to what the likes of O Shea and O Connor brought off the field, Hennelly included. You need a lot of things to go your way to win any silverware.

As a man said to me once when I commended him on the inside of their clubhouse and all the pictures of winning teams dotted around, “you should see the amount of pictures I have of losing teams that’ll never see the light of day, but things didnt fall for them.”
