YouTube - Maradona Goal V England 1986[/quote]
That Clough Revie interview is great stuff.
Unfortunately that Jimmy Magee commentary on Maradona isn’t the original. It’s one of the best commentaries ever, real shiver down the spine stuff but that you tube one is obviously one of those where Jimmy did the commentary, using the same words years later in a studio. I’d say it’s for his 20 sporting moments dvd or something like that and they couldn’t get the rights of RTE for the commentary.
I used to have a video as a young lad called ‘Jacks Heroes’ about Italia 90 with the same problem. All the commentaries were the same words but didn’t have the emotion of the real thing. ‘And Sheedy’s won it back and Sheedy shoots…’ etc just didn’t sound right. Ruined the whole video.
This kind of fits here though possibly not - a pundit reminiscing about his playing days.
Anyway, Craig Patterson’s an ex-hun who works with BBC on their Scottish football coverage. He was on the radio the other night and he told a story about Tommy Burns, which I found pretty funny.
The debate was about the SPL relegation battle this season and Patterson said he played under Tommy Burns in the first season Kilmarnock got into the top flight and they were in danger of going down again on the last day.
He said Burns stood up in front of them and told them to go out and enjoy the game. “Don’t worry about anything - just enjoy yourselves. There’s no pressure on you at all - the pressure is entirely on me.”
Then he climbed into the hamper that was used for the kits, closed the lid and shouted, ‘See you all at 5 o’clock lads’ - and the whole dressing room fell about laughing.
They won the game 1-0 and stayed up.

Nice.

Richie Bennis - The Interviews
Good lad Ritchie
Priceless when he ambushes Babs. I wouldn’t say he’s been that uncomfortable since the Offaly boys found out they were doin a fundraiser for John Leahy.

Watched this the other night. Amazing how different an era it was before the middlemen took over. Can you imagine something like this nowadays? Pay-per-view on sky and 6 weeks of build up. And then Jamie Redknapp would probably be on it.
I wouldn’t say Revie would have ever sat in the same room as a ladyboy like Jamie. Was a great Pat Nugent article on him in the tribune a while back but can’t get hold of it.
Two interviews I seen lately worth checking out if you find the time, Shaq is a born entertainer Fallons one is poignant, even downright sad enough at times
Shaquile O Neal retirerement press conference
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=6624104&categoryid=2459788
Nick Luck interviews Kieren Fallon(just before the Derby rigmarole)
seen the fallon one. Very good.
Shaq one embedded for anyone who loves the intimate surroundings of TFK when watching videos:

Baba giving as sour a performance as he’s ever given on radio now
It’s up for grabs nooooow!
Babs says Tipp are muck from 1-9, Diarmuid Kirwan robbed Tipp in 09, Limerick will only beat Waterford if it pours rain, Galway are muck in general but it’s not Tipperary man John McIntyres fault, Kilkenny are nothing without Henry Shefflin, Dublin were dire against Offaly, of Division 2 standard. Great stuff.
This is one of the funniest things I’ve watched / listened to in a long while. The closing minutes of the 1994 Regal Trophy Final between Castleford and Wigan.
“YOU DICK HEAD”
“Ah can’t spaek”
