Tyrone (McKenna Cup v St Maryās) - Michael OāNeill; Aidan McCrory, Ronan McNamee, Cathal McCarron; Rory Brennan, Dwayne Quinn, Peter Harte; Cathal McShane, Padraig McNulty; Mark Donnelly, Darren McCurry, Plunkett Kane; Patrick Quinn, Connor McAliskey, Shay McGuigan.
Subs: Niall Morgan, Sean Cavanagh, Kyle Coney, Peter Hughes, Tiernan McCann, Emmett McKenna, Niall McKenna, Ryan McKenna, Justin McMahon, Barry Tierney.
We look to be severely lacking in midfield options this year.
Beat Marys today by 12 points. Listened to most of the game on the radio, not a very impressive performance with Tyrone posting a big number of wides. The strong wind was probably a big factor though, seemed to have problems with the frees given the absence of Cavanagh, Morgan, OāNeill, McCurry and Coney from the starting lineup, McAliskey missing a number.
James Morgan was sent off for Marys early in the second half and they missed a penalty shortly after to bring themselves level with Patrick Quinn scoring a goal seconds after to put Tyrone 6 up. Colm Cavanagh was cleared to play after last weekās red card and came in for McCurry with McShane moving to centre forward. McCarron had to depart the scene early with an injury.
Going from the commentary there werenāt too many standout performers, Colm Cavanagh was one who seemed to stick out, the full back line looks like it wonāt be an issues this season. Tiarnan McCann did well when he came on and Patrick Quinn scored 1-01 from play. Cathal McShane looks like he could be a useful option as well but heās still quite young.
Worth bearing in mind that Marys are a very young side and only really James Morgan, Aiden Forker, Emmet Bradley and the Johnston brothers from Down would be the only ones with senior county experience.
Team for the game with Antrim tomorrow.
Tyrone (McKenna Cup v Antrim): Niall Morgan; Aidan McCrory, Justin McMahon, Dwayne Quinn; Tiernan McCann, Ronan McNabb, Barry Tierney; Emmett McKenna, PƔdraig McNulty; Mark Donnelly, Sean Cavanagh, Plunkett Kane; Darren McCurry, Kyle Coney, Connor McAliskey.
I highly doubt Emmett McKenna will play in midfield. As I said we really seem to be struggling for natural midfield options this year, hopefully McNulty impresses with his displays as Colm Cavanagh is the only really viable option there now. Sean Cavanagh has hinted that the remainder of his career will probably be in the forward line - most likely as a full forward. Not sure if McNabb has the physicality to play at 6 even if he is deceptively tough given his frame, heās very solid defensively though so he should add some balance to that area. Iāve resigned myself to the fact that Mattie Donnelly will probably be at 6 next year even though I feel he is much more needed in the half forward line.
Tyrone 1-11
Antrim 0-07
Cavan vs Fermanagh
Tyrone vs Armagh
Michael OāNeill; Dwayne Quinn, Ronan McNamee, Ryan McKenna; Rory Brennan, Mattie Donnelly, Peter Harte; Colm Cavanagh, Conal McCann; PJ Lavery, Ronan OāNeill, Peter Hughes; Shay McGuigan, Sean Cavanagh, Cathal McShane.
Interesting that Mattie Donnelly, Ronan OāNeill and Conall McCann are all involved for Tyrone after representing UUJ and St Marys respectively in the competition.
Good chance for the likes of McCann, Brennan and Quinn to show what they can do. Also good to see Lavery in at wing forward, Iām hoping he can nail a place down there this year and Ronan OāNeill at 11. Cavanagh at full forward again and he gives us an option there as a good target man.
I think Tyrone are in a much better position this year than last, particularly in defence and Iād also expect to see a much more defensive set up this year round with the return of the sweeper. Whereas last year nobody had an idea what the best team was I think Mickey has a good handle on it this year.
Read this morning that Joe McMahon is back training with the squad and among the subs for tonight. PJ Quinn also back training. Two very timely boosts ahead of the league campaign.
Tonightās game available to watch on Armagh TV for the bargain price of Ā£3. Iām happy to report that I will be providing live updates of the game tonight.

In fairness, mate, thereās little enough to be doing in the evenings up that way so on the rare occasion there is something on theyāre all over it like Ched Evans is all over a paralytically drunk woman.
