While I’m fundamentally against free Third level education I’ve no issues with young people heading abroad after college. It’s part and parcel of Irish life and we are far too small a nation to keep everyone here whether we like it or not. You’d meet plenty of New Yorkers in San Fran and vice virsa. It just so happens our island is tiny in the grand schemes of things. I’d be more worried about people further up along the rung packing it and moving on. People who really add to the economy. I’d also worry the impact Sinn Fein would have on foreign investment in the country which is obviously huge.
I have to laugh at times , you got a failed gambler telling lads how to run the country. 1940s stuff here . Happy out with the establishment and people dying on the streets and trolleys. Fuck me pink . This is what lads bought in to . Ya keep doing what yer doing leo , great job . And the other cunt from cork backed him up . The shinners may not be the long term answer , we need to try tho . Try everything. Learn and try again .
You need to try and stop imagining that I’m somebody else. Paranoid delusions are never pleasant to observe but I suppose it probably goes with the territory for a gambling addict. Still, they seem to be fairly widespread on this site, to be fair.
There’s an angry cohort out there that have been brainwashed to believe there’s a large chunk of the population scrounging off the state. You have this clear neoliberal and very American rhetoric justifying non state economic involvement in addressing social degradation… It’s actually a very dangerous mindset that incites hatred and destroys communities.
The same guys here like @anon60384913 and @carryharry who’ll trot out the dolers line, will then talk about being at full employment in tbe next breath and see no contradiction at all in Whst they’ve said. A clear sign that they are coming from a place of hate. Currently, we are St 1% long term unemployment… That’s 30-40000… Where are the hordes ripping the state off and marching for a rise in dole money?
We’ve Barney telling us no one wants to work hard anymore… More brainwashing… Despite the fact that more than half the population are working for the minimum wage or just above it. In many cases a lot of these people would probably make as much through welfare but they choose to work… Of course we also have the sizeable chunk commuting long distances for work. Working to pay out 50/60% of their wage on rent. Not seeing their kids for 10/11 hours a day and paying large sums for the pleasure… And they then get accused of not being willing to work hard enough for having the gall to want to change some of the issues causing them pain.
As for SF, they ain’t perfect. And if they don’t follow through with their promises they’ll be out on their ear. FG made a whole pile of promises in 2011 and 2016 that they didn’t deliver, but there seems to be some kind of acceptance thst the establishment can renege on promises
… Because they’re middle class, well educated and don’t have working class accents. It’s the same mentality that allowed sustained FF corruption for a few generations and I’d have my own thesis that it goes right back to the days of O’Connell.
Anyway, anyone that has been half following the election knows SF can’t go in on their own. They’ll be pragmatic enough and will learn that governing is completely different to opposition. They’ll also be well aware thst the majority of vote they got was a protest vote and issues such as a border poll are not immediate concerns, thus, will be medium to long term projects. Having been involved with the party, there’s a genuine desire there to tackle social issues and deliver a fairer ireland republican in the true meaning of the word… Whether they can do it in government in the next few years is another thing. But they won’t be interested in playing power games like the other two parties are, not that they’ll get any thanks for it.
