Did I ever tell you guys about the Russian chap who was studying in Mary I? Heā€™s a medievalistā€¦ I was drinking with him one night and I asked him for his history and what drew him to Ireland and why Irish historyā€¦Turns out his great grand father was from Dublin and fought with Connolly in 16ā€¦ Became a communist and fucked off to fight for the revolution in Russia and got marriedā€¦ Of course as Stalin did his things all foreigners became outlawed and he was eventually executed while wife and children were sent off to Siberia for 10 yearsā€¦ Your man is a die hard Celtic fan now and hates the Brits :):slightly_smiling_face:

Just wondering about the dates. May have been too young for 1916. The Spanish Civil War as Iā€™m sure you know attracted a lot of Irish revolutionaries and Orwellā€™s ā€œHomage to Cataloniaā€ documents the dangerous world they went to. Seems like young Fitzgerald fell foul of the revolutionary divisions there.
