Sligo GAA footballer appears in court on theft charges totalling almost €11,000

A Sligo intercounty footballer has pleaded guilty at Sligo Circuit Court to numerous theft charges related to his time working with the HSE.
Cian Lally (28), Drum Road, Rathcormack, Co Sligo is charged that on 25 various dates between December 12 2021 and May 28 2023 at Rusheen House, Doonally, Ballygawley Co Sligo, he did use an instrument to wit, support worker timesheet in the name of Cian Lally which was a false instrument with the intention of inducing another person to accept it as genuine.
He is also charged with 25 similar charges that at Rusheen House, Doonally, Ballygawley, he did steal various amounts of money, ranging in sums of €191.50, €351.10, €378.16 and €766.04 the property of the HSE on dates from December 28 2021 to May 26 2023.
The total amounts are €10,909.10.
Lally had earlier appeared before Judge Deirdre Gearty at Sligo District Court this morning.
Mr Keith O’Grady BL instructed by Mr Fergal Kelly solicitor told the court that he was going forward to the circuit court on a signed plea of guilty. Sergeant David McDonagh confirmed this. Judge Gearty noted there were 50 charges.
Sgt McDonagh said it was his application to send him forward to the current sittings of the circuit court on the signed plea.
Mr Lally then appeared before Judge Keenan Johnson at the circuit court shortly aftreards.
Mr Leo Mulrooney BL (prosecuting) said that ordinarily each charge would be read out. He said that there are fifty and it was agreed to read out one sample charge.
Judge Johnson remanded him on bail to the circuit court on May 1 for sentencing.
