Munster Rugby - We DID start the fire (Part 1)

Quin Roux?
Youā€™re fucking joking.

Heā€™s already capped mate.

Ah here.

Sure you have been banging this drum for a month now you surely have some factual knowledge of what you have been moaning about

What is pal?

Toner is shite and wouldnā€™t make the match day squad for most decent rugby teams. The fact that youā€™ve mentioned roux and he is even in the conversation is laughable and shows how bad the decision to lose Ryan is. No one suggested 400k.

Toner is a perfectly passable international second row.

Munster fans seem to think that Donnacha Ryan is indispensable. He is a good player but injured.

Toner is shite. Ryan is the best of a shallow pool of second rows.

How do you mean no one suggested 400k? This is what heā€™s been offered

Ryan is a reasonably good international, but thatā€™s his ceiling. Iā€™d be surprised if he makes the plane to NZ and Iā€™m not sure he would make the Scottish or English teams.

Henderson is a more dominant player with much greater upside. Dillane is young for a player in that position, but again lots of potential.

The thing here is not every Irish player is on a central contract and they are really for players who are central to plans. Munster should have been able to find the cash to keep him. Already the IRFU have sanctioned a rake of players for them this year.

If only there were people in Munster with a history of contributing favourably to sports organisationsā€¦

Iā€™d say they are at pin of collar to make the offer they did. Iā€™m sure itā€™s already been topped up by external investment through the commercial board.

I must have a look back here and see where was the clamour when Ryan didnā€™t even make the 24 for the first 6 n game

He has more than done his bit

You get the feeling they could tap this sort of funding a little more. Maybe they have it maxed out, but hard to know.

They have improved this hugely in last 18 months. Lot of big hitters brought onto the commercial board. It was a shambles before thatā€¦some of the stories I heard would make you cringe.

Lot of the cash they raise they put into the academy and used some to fit out the new facilities in UL. Also been used to hire coaching resources more so than players. The academy is actually sponsored by Greencore whose CEO (Patk Coveney) sits on the commercial board

Good to hear. Youā€™d hope theyā€™ve got their act together.

Is say they got a fair wake up call from the IRFU

No one said Ireland had to equal that to keep him. The implication is that he would have taken quite a bit less, but Munster couldnā€™t afford to even get in the ball park of an attractive offer without a central contract.

For sure Iā€™d say.
