I was at the opening of the Lisduggan shopping center in 1975. Gay Byrne opened it. I have a feeling that shop was a Londis supermarket first then a Quinnsworth.
L&N was in Broad Street where that little Mall is now. The Hyper was originally an L&N as well with a cash and carry upstairs. The site was previously a Denny pig factory. The Torrie family owned the L&N which stood for London and Newcastle Stores.
Darrers sold clothes as well, most of which were imported from Poland.
Opening your first Bank Account and choosing BOI because in 1988 anyone who opened a junior account got an original signed Stephen Roche yellow jersey. Hanging said jersey over your bed for months and refusing to wear it.
And still having that very same bank account number some 30 years later.
