Ultimately today’s result didn’t really matter, with the teams that were out and the fact there was little to play for, it was mere shadow boxing but it’s been very encouraging league campaign overall.
The performances from the likes of Brennan, Burns, the two McGearys, McShane, Meyler and McKernan are hugely encouraging and there’s definitely more variety and a more offensive outlook to the side.
We stacked up very good scoring totals in the league.
Big result for Mayo…in fairness they are never afraid to take responsibility and have a shot at the death to save the game …its why rumours of their demise are greatly exaggerated …
True that it was a dead rubber, but importantly for Tyrone they’re coming out of the league on a really positive note with three wins in a row and a 4-3 win/loss record, whereas they went into it with a bit of a cloud over them.
Tyrone-Monaghan at Healy Park on May 20th will be BOX OFFICE.
Even the lad coming up from corner back taking the shot, mcloughlin on his weak foot…they really do go til the death…whether they are or ever have been good enough to win the ultimate prize is a different argument…
Tyrone will have the edge in the middle of the pitch and have more scorers dotted around the pitch. Containing McManus and not conceding frees will be the key for the win.
He’s been one Mayo’s few bright spots in terms of unearthing players in this campaign. Fergal Boland might be another in terms of being a bench option for them in the championship - he was a regular in last year’s league.
