Cork missed a couple as well in second half. All part of learning curve.
A 5 point margin flattered Cork given Collins made a point blank save from Cian Lynch and the ref disallowed the goal that subsequently trickled in, Collins stifled Gillane towards the end and Byrnes howler for the Cork goal. I suppose they’ll glean positives from not letting it spiral at 1-11 to 1-2 and avoiding a repeat of the Round Robin game last year.

They’d a system that worked last year. The issues were the quality in a few key positions. Ben has changed too much and probably should’ve kept Hoggie.
I could see Pat Ryan back in the next few years. He just gets this group of players.
All Cork needed was to sort out that full back line really.

I think one of the early frees Gillane took against Dublin will have driven Kiely absolutely demented. Was very casual. Has gotten his response though.
They look poorly coached or over coached - and they’ve lost some of the threat of playing 3 up top.
That said they are a dangerous animal for any side of they hit form.
Tipp should really fancy taking them down in thurles after all the humiliating defeats they have taken there from cork over last 8 years.

Need Jake Morris to catch fire again. There’s so much of that Tipp attack that shouldn’t work but it did last year. Might be catching Cork at the right time though.

Taking the frees off gillane was probably an excellent motivational ploy by kiely.
I know if we have a free to win an all Ireland I want gillane standing over it. He also doesn’t let misses impact him which is an important attribute in big games.
If AOC starts come championship he may start on frees but imo gillane will end up back on them when the time comes.

He is definitely unplayable if you leave a 50 metre unguarded arc around him and isolate him one on one like we did lots yday.

Tipp have the first round won already which is worrying for us. We never liked going to thurles 
I think their backs are on a hiding to nothing. Any other team when a forward wins a ball they’re swarmed by other defenders but with Cork its all 1 vs 1 stuff. No back would look good like that. Like Ger Millerick vs Gillane was crazy stuff defensively
We were cleaned on contests for possession yesterday, literally all over the field save for a spell towards the end of the first half.
It was a disappointing showing just two weeks out from Thurles. The result is one thing but the performance must be concerning. It was a fair 6 point thumping.
I was reasonably happy with a few things. Joyce was excellent at 3 and dominated his man. TOC midfield had a good outing. Mullins did okay I felt - won’t start and possibly won’t feature too much this year but he’s a work in progress for sure. Midfield possibly his best position.
Buckley and Hayes were very good on very little ball.
A lot more negatives but I’ll name a few.
Puckouts were puzzling. The half forward line and Collins didn’t look to be in sync at all.
We didn’t make any use of the wind. We pushed up on their puckout but they were still able to win possession time and time again from long balls into the breeze. HB line have to be a lot more competitive.
I do believe that you have to push up against Limerick to beat them. Letting them play around with it at the back with their extra numbers back there will have you dying by a thousand cuts as they effortlessly work the ball into shooting range.
However, letting 50 yards in front of Gillane when we were against a stiff breeze was a bit of head scratcher.
They put a lot of pressure on our short puckouts worked v hard…had to be sending a few as long as possible to pull them back but we were winning nowt in the air

Cork did a lot of short passing around in their backs that didn’t really move them into a better position but just put them under more pressure. Passes to lads 5 or 10 yards away from themselves who were also under pressure when receiving the ball. Seemed to be a very attritional game they were forcing on themselves. That made it so easy to swarm them and close them down.
At times in that first half when the camera went to O’Connor on the sideline he just had the look of a fella who was frazzled.
As poor as they were at times yesterday Cork kept at it and didn’t take a complete thumping.
