Thereās no justice like angry mob justice
Murdoch is probably playing a long con here somewhere.
This is a tremendous little thingie from the Guardian tracking the whole debacle via Twitter hastags
Scotland Yard has admitted it employed Neil Wallis, a former executive at the News of the World, as an adviser to the commissioner until September 2010.
Wallis was employed to advise Sir Paul Stephenson and John Yates on a part-time basis from October 2009 to September 2010. During this time the Yard was saying there was no need to reopen the phone-hacking investigation ā a decision made by Yates despite allegations in the Guardian that the first police investigation had been inadequate.
Wallis is a former News of the World executive editor. He was arrested on Thursday morning as part of the policeās renewed phone-hacking inquiry.
Wallis joined the News of the World in 2003 as deputy to then editor Andy Coulson. In mid-2007 he became executive editor, eventually leaving the News International title in 2009. Police say he supplied āstrategic communication adviceā. The Met said his company was chosen because it offered to do the work for the lowest price. He was paid Ā£24,000 by Scotland Yard to work as a two-day-a-month consultant.
Relations between senior Met officers and News of the World senior executives have been under scrutiny. In September 2006 Stephenson, as deputy commissioner, accompanied by the Yardās head PR man, Dick Fedorcio, dined with Wallis. This was a month after officers had arrested the paperās royal correspondent, Clive Goodman, and at a time when detectives were still attempting to investigate whether other journalists or executives were involved in the interception of voicemail messages. In theory Wallis was a potential suspect in the inquiry.
Scotland Yard said: "Chamy Media, owned by Neil Wallis, former executive editor of the News of the World, was appointed to provide strategic communication advice and support to the MPS, including advice on speechwriting and PR activity, while the Metās deputy director of public affairs was on extended sick leave recovering from a serious illness.
"In line with Metropolitan Police Service/Metropolitan Police Authority procurement procedures, three relevant companies were invited to provide costings for this service on the basis of two days per month. Chamy Media were appointed as they were significantly cheaper than the others. The contract ran from October 2009 until September 2010, when it was terminated by mutual consent.
āThe commissioner has made the chair of the police authority aware of this contract.ā
The British media is on the turn now. The story only has two places to go:
- Reveal other paperās hacking activities
- Turn on the brass
2 is infinitely better than all of them being uncovered as using dodgy practices, so 2 it will be
This thing about hacking 11/9 victims could keep this story running
Sky sources: Rebekah Brooks has resigned as chief exec. of News International
R Murdoch just gave interview with Wall Street Journal saying how well News International have been managing this situation. Hope they get a grilling on Tuesday. Would be nice to see News Corp and Sky suffer too. Really negative influence.
Read the full statement from Rebekah Brooks on her resignation:
At News International we pride ourselves on setting the news agenda for the right reasons. Today we are leading the news for the wrong ones.
The reputation of the company we love so much, as well as the press freedoms we value so highly, are all at risk.
As Chief Executive of the company, I feel a deep sense of responsibility for the people we have hurt and I want to reiterate how sorry I am for what we now know to have taken place.
I have believed that the right and responsible action has been to lead us through the heat of the crisis. However my desire to remain on the bridge has made me a focal point of the debate.
This is now detracting attention from all our honest endeavours to fix the problems of the past.
Therefore I have given Rupert and James Murdoch my resignation. While it has been a subject of discussion, this time my resignation has been accepted.
Rupertās wisdom, kindness and incisive advice has guided me throughout my career and James is an inspirational leader who has shown me great loyalty and friendship.
I would like to thank them both for their support.
I have worked here for 22 years and I know it to be part of the finest media company in the world.
News International is full of talented, professional and honourable people. I am proud to have been part of the team and lucky to know so many brilliant journalists and media executives.
I leave with the happiest of memories and an abundance of friends.
As you can imagine recent times have been tough. I now need to concentrate on correcting the distortions and rebutting the allegations about my record as a journalist, an editor and executive.
My resignation makes it possible for me to have the freedom and the time to give my full cooperation to all the current and future inquiries, the police investigations and the CMS appearance.
I am so grateful for all the messages of support. I have nothing but overwhelming respect for you and our millions of readers.
I wish every one of you all the best.
Rebekah
I love the way she says:
how sorry I am for what we now know to have taken place

In light of these new facts, of which I now realise I was largely aware
There must be some serious shit coming down the tracks. This is the story that just gives and gives.
hopefu;lly they did hack these phones, will have an enormous negative effect on fox news
good riddance brooks, hopefully she gets jail time, but after what she did to ross kemp shell be well able to look after herself in prison
Thatās the end of two vile red tops in a week, ah lovely.
Looks like Rebekah Brooks has been arrested.
Sky are reporting that a 43 year old woman has been arrested āby appointmentā today.
Auntie named her an hour ago.
Met Police Commissioner Paul Stephenson resigns.
Clever move by her, she wonāt be able to answer any questions at the House Committee (or whatever it is) now, as it may prejudice an ongoing investigation. The cops seem to be up to their ears in it, arresting her conveniently by appointment.
More interesting still is the in fighting in the Murdoch clan. Elisabeth and James are not getting on apparently. Lachlan must be laughing his tits off at this, not only did he leave the empire at what seemed to be a very good time, heās also married to the extremely hot Sarah Murdoch, bastard.
leaving with his reputation fully intact according to the press blurbs
his reputation as a bent cop in the pay of murdoch certainly seem iron proof now. fairly outrageous how he thought he would get away with staying in that farm place. thought he was above the law I suppose.
can only hope something comes out about blair aswell, the troika of Murdoch, New labour and cops are up to their necks in this it seems.
pity they wouldnt have a similar purge of the sindo, paul williams and the various dirty cops, politicans in Ireland too.
Im thinking though Murdoch must have a heap of stuff waiting to come out about various people - maybe a few files will be heading wikileaks way once they fix up the mickyleaks of assange
+1
williams seems to be getting a lot of scoops recently & seems to be in the right place at th right time a lot, btw the two photographers he uses are both sons of leading detectives
Blair is almost certainly going to be damaged by this eventually but Cameron is much more obviously close to the Murdochs and the NOTW guys and thatās where the attacks will come first.
The Met guy had a go at Cameron in his leaving statement - basically saying he is resigning because he employed Wallis who was an employee of Coulson and that was compromising. Obviously the implication is that Cameronās decision to hire Coulson should be seen as a bigger offence.
