I think he did ok at Aston Villa in retrospect. Theyāve been godawful since he left. He did fine with them for a while and then they definitely slumped but they were a club with big problems.
Blackburn are just as big a mess off the field.
His record at Norwich was superb. Consecutive promotions to get to the EPL is a fantastic achievement.
He did well at Colchester and Wycome before that.
I donāt think Celtic will have a huge pick of options. Iād probably be happy enough with Moyes or Rodgers. I like both Clarke and Lambert though they have flaws. I remain worried that Lennon will be reappointed.
Or you could say he ran Villa into the ground completely. A matter of perspective I suppose.
I would describe it as an unambitious apointment. The board know heāll get plenty of slack from the fans and he wonāt be expensive or overly demanding.
I donāt think heād be a particularly popular appointment and Iām not sure heāll get much slack.
I guess the level of ambition is a matter of perspective. I thought the Deila appointment made an awful lot of sense. He had a good pedigree in a smaller league, had a clear vision for the team and the club and we had a unique window to give 2 years over to a āproject.ā Sadly that didnāt end well but I thought it was a decent idea.
Iām not sure what would constitute an ambitious move now. Thereās nobody being mentioned who would really be a huge departure. I guess Rodgers or Moyes might fit that bill but Iām not sure either of them would take the job.
If it comes down to Lambert v Lennon v Mackay then Iād take Lambert in a heartbeat.
Weāve been there. He did really well at times, by the end of his tenure he seemed to grow tired, his team selection grew predictable and conservative. I donāt think heād be a disaster but I want some excitement.
āWell, itās an incredible club, a club that family and everyone support.
āObviously the league isnāt so competitive but Celtic are one of the great iconic clubs in the world, a huge club.
āI think Ronny has done a great job there, it looks like they will go on and win the title so that is two titles in a row. So Iāll be sad to see him go but there is an opportunity for somebody there to go to a great club.ā
