Next Celtic Manager

I’m hearing the next Manager will be a game changer.

Ted Lasso?

One of the Celtic pods suggested that any NDA would be with the club and not individual shareholders. This could get proper nawty as Danny Dyer might say. Also the statement was the equivalent of that work email that you leave in drafts until you’ve calmed down a bit.

6 million a year for McKenna so unless DD really wants to annoy Rodgers I can’t see it happening.

He was on the shortlist the last time too but I’d think him unlikely. Stranger things have happened though.

I see folk online advocating for the Bodo Glimt fella or the ex Red Bull chap. But these lads have flourished in modern set ups with a proper football department hierarchy & they’d be walking back in time at Celtic. On the other hand, if they try to (re)appoint a unifying messiah type like Ange then his force of personality might mask the deficiencies in the boardroom & within the footballing department structure…but the current issues would eventually come to the surface again.

Repeating myself here but a complete change of structure is required either way.

O’Neill & Maloney are speaking to the media at 3.30pm. One thing in the Celtic statement last night…it didn’t state that Maloney would be assisting O’Neill, it gave them equal billing so I’m keen to hear what’s the story here.

Maloney would have all the requisite coaching badges done at this stage?

Yeah he has the lot.

He took the loans & pathways manager role at Celtic in the summer when Darren O’Dea left it to take up the assistant manager job at Swansea.

Celtic being Celtic…I don’t think there was ever any sit down interview with Maloney on Celtic TV or a feature where they specifically explained what his job entailed & how it aligned with the first team squad etc etc.

At face value…someone who’s meant to have shown promise as a training ground coach would be a better fit as a first team coach rather than what appeared to be more of an administrative & organisational type job. Seems to be assessing what young players should go out on loan, to what clubs, monitoring them, getting feedback from them & the clubs & all that.

Can I just state for the record that I’m largely on board with @Jake_Stevens albeit less invested.

There are very few game changers out there who would take the job id say. Greenock Morton on a wet dark Saturday evening isn’t as appealing as Napoli.
Much like the players, we’ll likely need to appoint someone on the up (or down) rather than at the top

Yeah that’s why I saying you’re the only sane Celtic fan rowing in firmly behind Dermo.

Stevie G

And rovers

I wonder what our Tyrone Comrade would think of things now.

Vilified during the 10 in a row year with some here backing the board and Lennon, and of course a lad here backing and following the lad who backed the board and Lennon. As soon as one turned on the board the other followed.

Fulvio proved right again.

Mark Fotheringham added to the interim coaching ticket apparently.

Ex Celtic “wonder kid” who didn’t make it at the club, went into coaching, got some high profile assistant gigs in Germany before having an ill fated spell in charge of Huddersfield.

His accent meshing jocko with German means a funny clip of him being interviewed when in charge at Huddersfield comes onto Twitter timelines now & again.

Who do you think gets the job on a permanent basis mate? McKenna would be a great appointment, you could see Desmond eschewing a cheap option next, he’ll want every chance to spite Rodger’s and prove he was right in sacking him.

You’re definitely onto something there. Desmond seems to only put his money where his mouth is (in relation to Celtic) when his ego is hurt. The one that always gets quoted is Celtic under Ronny Deila losing a cup semi to the huns in a penalty shoot-out & the then hun board of directors extravagantly celebrating in front of Desmond & the other Celtic directors. That was the motivation for him going after Rodgers first time around after settling for a couple of cheap options before then. This bitter fight with Rodgers might light another fire under Desmond alright. I need to think some more about potential permanent manager options myself.

The cheque book won’t be a problem when it comes to next manager. I wonder does McKenna have a big release fee with Ipswich? cc @BruidheanChaorthainn might know the answer to this.

Plenty of high profile managers unemployed at the moment - Ole, Ten Hag, Duffer, Marco Rose. Ole would be well got there.

Before your time but he brought in Martin O’Neill and backed him with serious funds. Gordon Strachan was a decent Manager if not everyone’s cup of tea.

Rangers liquidation and loss of revenue had a factor I’m sure after 2011/12.

10 in a row was the lost year although strangely some still backed the board and Lennon.

Russell Martin is available and has a good handle on the Scottish scene at this stage.
