Would it be slightly concerning that Celtic needed extra-time to beat a Rangers team who played with 10 man for the majority of the game? Murt O’ Neill shouldn’t just target overhauling Hearts to win the league, he should have a right crack off the Europa. God knows more limited Rangers teams have. They do need investment up front though. Assuming Iheanacho’s trouble isn’t cleared up then they’ve a weaker set of forwards than 2023 Shamrock Rovers.

No. These games can take on a life of their own. It was an absolutely pulsating, belter of a game. Celtic were really good to be fair. Celtic Celtic Celtic.

The fact that it’s no longer Russel Martin’s Rangers made it more impressive alright. They’re still in new manager bounce territory themselves.

Last night was a reality check after the initial buzz of Martin O’Neill’s return & the derby cup semi-final victory. It wasn’t unexpected either - the squad depth & quality allied with some key player injuries just isn’t equipped to do anything of note in Europe & you can also have a natural emotional comedown after the extra time effort at the weekend & the total upheaval leading up to it.
I wouldn’t be criticising O’Neill for the result/performance but it emphasised again the mess the club is in. That there was a stark difference between Celtic & Midtylland in terms of quality, cohesion, organisation, physicality, athleticism etc etc doesn’t reflect well on Celtic as a club.
I think it’s overwhelmingly the board/ownership that’s put the club in this position &, frustratingly, it requires the same folk who’ve caused it to steer Celtic out of it. As much as I liked the rolling 1-month interim manager concept (cc @Cheasty), I sense from my ONLINE activity & podcast listening that most Celtic fans (including those who revere MON from his first spell) acknowledge the club need to appoint a manager for the long haul in these next few weeks.
As much as he’ll be limited by the board & club structure, a new manager is required to get a handle on this mess, implement his PHILOSOPHY & be allowed to shape a squad. January is going to be hugely important to determine whether Celtic will even be able to challenge Hearts for the title, never mind start to recruit the profile of player who can perform well at European level. With the glaring weaknesses/gaps in the squad already plus the long injury list, it’s hard not to see Celtic leaking more league points in the next 6 weeks.
I’d like to see some urgency in the attempts to secure a manger now.

His stock has fallen quite drastically. I’m pretty sure he turned down the Chelsea job during the summer of 2024.
Martin O’Neill has been in charge less than two weeks and he’s already halved the gap to Heart Of Midlothian.
The mafia at Celtic know what to do and it doesn’t involve some unknown technocrat named Knutsen or Schmidt.

If the ub put their hand in their pocket in January and spend 20 or 30 million, Celtic will piss the league and probably the next few. They need to put the boot down on Hearts and sicken them as that Lizard is wily. Maybe look to the French leagues.
