Nóirín O'Sullivan - Former Garda Commissioner

Just heard on Pat Kenny there that there is another Garda scandal on the way about financial irregularities at Templemore.

Heard the clip of Mick Wallace in the dail last night, great stuff from Mick.:grinning:

See my post above.
M’learned friends advise me that this is old news.

How many times do these stories have to go through the news cycle before they become an official scandal? The thing about the mouthpieces and this Templemore creative accounting story are in the news for at least six months I’d say, it’s only now the media in general are picking up on it.

All old stories

Is there a mandatory amount of time she has to spend as commissioner before she’s entitled to a full pension?

Probably not. Im sure her years of service in the Gardai will ensure her of her pension. The thing is if she is sacked then should she be entitled to the Commissioner pension?

Well that’s the point. Forget for a second the ethics of the situation. If you were in her position knowing that the shit is hitting the fan and that by the looks of it there are a few more worms in the can, surely to fuck logic would suggest you’d take your retirement and your pension and drop the whole lot at Fitzgerslds door.
Job is oxo.

The only reason I can see her for sticking around is to try a bury as much shit as she can. Imagine what she can bury by being in that seat. Look at Callinan and him shredding 10 plastic bags of papers before he left office and destroyed a sim card as well. God knows what would have been found out if he hadn’t done that.

Fair point. That would suggest possible criminal activity to some degree.

It may not be criminal behavior but more unprofessional unethical behavior more than anything like organising smear campaigns things like that.

Ok. But her reputation is fucked anyway. Another accusation of smearing / unethical behaviour isn’t going to do anymore damage to her. I mean look at Callinan. Yea there was a bit of shit for a few weeks after he left but he couldn’t give a fuck now.
I’m just saying in her shoes there is an option to walk away and if she has any sense she should take it.

As @tazdedub says, they’re all busy trying to bury as much as they can. Since 2014 there have been something like 17 reviews/investigations in to the Gardaí. None of them will ever be held accountable, there appears to be rampant criminal activity at the top of the force but the only repercussions for those involved are reputational, the “resignation” package will soften that blow.

Which brings me back to my original question. Why would you bother your hole clinging on when you know that your reputation is in tatters anyway and that there’s a nice little retirement package waiting for you regardless?

Possible criminal prosecution unless tracks are properly covered? They know the new commissioner will possibly be an outsider.

Easy there fella

Lots of bodies to be buried before mccabe commission and also to still retain control of security services

Does “appears” not cover me?

The only reason why I can think for the government supporting her is that when they remove her from office it is without warning so that they can go in and escort her from the building and seal the office before anything can be removed or shredded. Tell the commissioner we will send her personal stuff onto her.

Is it not cos they’re up to their necks in it as well, both FF and FG?

How many “root & branch” examinations has Kenny ordered at this stage?
