So what was it for you?

I was:

UK: Prince Charming - Adam & The Ants; :-

USA: Endless Love - Diana Ross & Lionel Richie; 8)

Satisfied with the US of A but the UK could have been better.

13/09/81.

06/11/82

UK: Do You Really Want To Hurt Me Culture Club

USA: Up Where We Belong Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes

Quiet happy with both of them.

UK: This ole house - Shakin Stevens

US: Rapture - Blondie

Disappointed with UK…clicked on try again but same result http://www.thefreekick.com/board/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

UK: Don’t you want me - Human League

USA: Physical - Olivia Newton John

UK: I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

USA: Tragedy - Bee Gees

Prefer the second, but two classics really.

I Will Survive was also the Irish No. 1 on that date

Incidentally the all-time top 20 hits in Ireland (below) is absolutely shocking if it’s correct (am suspicious of it, as had heard that the Sawdoctors had the biggest hit of all time in Ireland but don’t see them included anywhere here:

UK: Eye of the Tiger - Survivor

USA: Jack & Diane - John Cougar Mellencamp (got it wrong before!)

Heard of both of them so happy enough…

Have to say they’re both crackers, loved listening to that JCL song in work in the USA on my J1 on the legendary Cape Cod Classic Rock FM!!!. What year was it? 1982?

Boston - More Than A Feeling, Blue Oyster Cult - Don’t Fear The Reaper, The Who - Behind Blue Eyes, Rollin’ Stones - Under My Thumb and on and on. Excellent stuff.

Huge fan of ‘More than a Feeling’. It is a regular in my local in the lovely county and hearing it in NYC recently was a great experience.

There is a theory that Cobain ripped it off for ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’. Don’t see the similarities myself apart from the way the guitar fades from the chorus into the third verse

Shanktar Shanktar: “Let me into your mudhut of lurve”

Pots and Pans: “Youre covering your face again”
