However the more research being done on wheat the more its been highlighted as the route of alot of health issues in the western dietā€¦ the cross breeding of wheat in the 60s has left a protein so complex that the human body hasnā€™t evolved quickly enough to break it down.

I read ā€œWheat Bellyā€ earlier this year and some of the findings are startling. The effect of wheat on your blood sugarsā€¦ the brain fog, the growling stomach after a grain based cereal etcā€¦ well worth a read if your into this stuff.[/quote]
My uncle in America has been on about this recently, perhaps the same book. Says that currently most wheat is practically undigestible and responsible for all sorts of bad stuff. I dismissed it out of hand cause he normally talks a lot of rubbish.

True, I was startled at first by her dealing mainly in pence , say 80p to make lentil stew etc. but then again what she was living on wasnā€™t even peanuts

He is not far off the mark. The rapid rise of coeliac disease is proof in itself.

They have measured blood sugars after ingesting wheat and compared the results against the blood sugar levels after eating a sugary bar. The wheat raises the blood sugar levels higher tjan the candy barā€¦ Of course when that happens, insulin rushes into the bloodstream and starts converting the sugar into fatā€¦ hense The Wheat Belly.

Anybody tried Aussie BBQ? Itā€™s a lovely feed. They have Man v Food type challenges. I have turned into a fat coont. I aim to turn it around by end June 2014.

Interesting stuff. But is this only coming from one guy and do we really believe everything he says?

Iā€™ve cut down on bread but still regularly eat homemade brown bread or seeded varieties. Pittas are especially handy.

Presumably pasta and cous cous are equally as bad then?

@briantinnion was banging on about this recently.

Quinona, or whatever it is called is the job.

Spelt bread is also the job.

Quinoa is indeed smashing stuff. Pricey though.

Probably is but hard to figure out what is and isnā€™t. A lot of the brown bread in supermarkets is made with dyed white lour

Anyone care to put up a list of wheat based foods to avoid and healthy alternatives. The brain fog is impeding my own research capabilities.

Spelt bread is lovely. Mammy always has it in the gaff-I never seem to be able to find it in supermarkets.

I used to have beans on toast or scrambled eggs on toast a fair bit in the evenings and Iā€™d have 3 or 4 rounds of bread. I stopped eating bread (even though it was multigrain) about 3 or 4 months ago and Iā€™ve lost a decent chunk of weight. Is there wheat in Beckā€™s?

What about rye bread? (I never eat rye bread or see it anywhere, is it an American thing?)

No Bandage there is no wheat in Becks.

Superquinn / Super Valu usually have it.

So she says, pal-Iā€™ve never been able to find it in Blackrock or Ranelagh though.

Itā€™s a grain so youā€™d use it as a replacement for something like cous cous or rice. You could mix up stuff like feta, sundried tomatoes, garlic, olive oil spring onions and what have you and have a nice salad out of it.

Dunnes have recently started stocking their own brand quinoa. Itā€™s cheap enough.

I know we all know that wheat is the devil but is it possible that your sudden weight loss was helped by dropping four slices of bread from your daily diet?
