Official All Ireland Minor and U20 Hurling & Football Thread (Part 1)

Sounds like a serious game!!

Big win for the Deise in the opening game today. 2-18 to 0-19. Waterford through to meet KK on August 10. We struggled with Dublins superior aerial prowess for a very long time. Eoghan Conroy from St Maurs and Sean Ryan of Na Fianna were particularly dominant in this regard. Ultimately though our hurling ability trumped their physical dominance and we pulled through courtesy of two goals from Shane Ryan despite our star man Patrick Curran, being alarmingly off form.

Mayo destroying Armagh by 3-11 to 0-7, with Sharioze Akram destroying the Armagh defence in a similar manner to how Wasim Akram destroyed the England middle order in the 1992 Cricket World Cup final. Corner forward Brian Reape is reaping what the rest of the team are sowing with two goals.

Good to have you back Sid.

Luke Scanlon is having some game at midfield for Kilkenny.

What’s the score in Kilkenny-Waterford?

Draw. Extra time 10 mins a side

Extra-time between Kilkenny and Waterford.

Waterford are starting to look like the Galway minor teams of the late 90s and 00s. Lots of skillful shapers who prove to be windy when it’s put up to them. Gleeson their centre-back is excellent though. He’s kept them in it.

Well thats a rarity for Kilkenny in Croke Park

Best kicked goal all weekend

Waterford were blackguarded out of this at the end of normal time. They should have had a free in right at the end for one of the most blatant acts of overcarrying you could ever hope to see from the Kilkenny defender.

Kilkenny 1-20 to 1-14 ahead now in extra time. All over.

Was that the fella who missed the chance at the end of normal time?

Don’t think so.

Waterford had lots of skill but little else. Kilkenny outworked them and used the ball better throughout.

limerick will destroy this Kilkenny minor team

total nonsense.

kilkenny won because they are a team. they worked extremely hard for each other throughout.
waterford did the same thing until the reached the forwards at which point they became a team of individuals trying to score spectacular points all day. the lack of support running and particularly the failure to pass the ball to team mates in better positions killed them.

you would also have to say that the waterford management left one of the forwards on far too long and he hit a few killer wides

however i have to qualify that by saying that the ref failed to send off a kilkenny player for pulling the waterford corner backs helmet by the faceguard in the first half.

the rule is either there or it isnt

Typical aul shite we’ve come to expect to hear from a certain section of Waterford supporters, mostly City based

Is Manuel not from Carlow?

I dont know, just saying its typical stuff youd hear from Waterford hurling aristocrats from in amd around Johns park or Larchville

Thought overall Kilkenny were the better team, crisper hurling, better touch. We battled back through sheer grit and nearly snuck it, but we emptied the tank in so doing, and had nothing left for ET. Murphy from Glenmore on the frees - brother of Eoin - was some detail on the frees. Unerring. KK subs added plenty too.
