Anyone going to the UFC on Saturday? I’m heading myself, I got a seat fairly near the cage can’t wait. Tickets were awful expensive for the good seats I think mine was over 250 euro.
Great reports about the young Irish guy making his UFC debut, Tom Egan is his name, the weekly UFC talk show on Setanta seemed to rate him. I was going to stick 50 on him as I thought he was over 2/1 last night when I checked Paddy, but when I looked now he’s only 5/4, balls he must have been cut. The other guy he’s fighting has more experience but is making his UFC debut too, I might still chance 50 on him, I’ll decide Saturday.

Not too impressed by the card but am I right in saying there are 2 Irish fighters? That’d make it interesting. I’d love to see what the atmosphere would be like.
Would love to have a way of seeing Penn v GSP at the end of the month. That is going to be an awesome fight I’d say.
Don’t know if there are 2 Irish guys I only heard of the one. I think it’s a decent card, it’s just a lot of the fighters wouldn’t be household names if you were a casual fan.
Found the bet value I was looking for, Chris Lytle v Marcus Davis to be fight of the night at 9/2(currently in Paddys), 2 standup fighters with great chins that have won the award each a few times, outstanding value there, defenitely worth a sneaky 20 anyway.
Probably enjoyed the other one more because there was a title fight and I got to see Liddell and Couture as well.
Coleman is a gutsy mofo but he was pretty much outclassed. The main event was a bit of a snorefest.
Lytle v Davis was a great fight too.
Pity Egan got his arse handed to him.
The Ole/Fields issue is a bit of a ridiculous Irish cultural phenomenon. When the Ole Ole thing starts there are always guys up standing with their backs to the action, facing the crowd urging people to join in.
I think that if the guy in front of you at a sporting event stands up for no reason other than excitement more than three times in a night and substantially blocks your view they should be fair game for a puck in the face.
The Fields of Athenry almost broke out during TNA as well. Ole Ole had a good run out. The Dudleys, sorry, Team 3D and Samoa Joe loved it.
Did anyone see that they showed Bernard Dunne in the crowd.
On the screen his caption read:
“Bernard Dunn - 1992 Olympic Boxing Gold Medallist”
Bubba Ray is a master of controlling a crowd. He turned to the crowd and shouted “Bubba” in an effort to get the crowd chanting and they and me duly obliged. I’ll have a full report done on the night soon enough. Wrestlemania has a lot to live up to but I doubt it can to be honest considering they dont have near the level of talent of TNA.
Just back home from the UFC and as hungover as fuck. I had 30euro at 9/2 on the Lytle/Davis fight to be fight of the night(it was) so delighted with that.
I was totally disgusted with Shogun Rua who is supposed to be a top5 lightheavy in the world. For his second UFC fight in a row he looked gassed after the first round. Mark Coleman is 44, way past his prime and a one dimensional fighter, yet Rua struggled and struggled badly to beat him.
I thought the o2 areana was a superb venue for it, I had great seats yet I found myself looking at the big screens rather than the cage for most of the event as the wire mesh does restrict the view. For instance in one of the non televised fights there was a knockout with a back kick to the body. When I saw it first through the cage I was 100% sure it connected to the guys balls and was an illeagal blow but on the big screen it clearly landed in the ribcage.
Great night though enjoyed it
The biggest fight ever in MMA and UFC history takes place tonight at 3am live on Setanta1. Two of the best pound for pound MMA fighters today George St Pierre and BJ Penn battle it out for the Welterweight title.
GSP is the reigning champ and BJ is the lightweight champ who is moving up to challenge him. If he suceeds(they fought once before years ago but BJ lost by controversial split decision) he will be the first man ecer to hold more than one belt at the same time in the UFC.
Going well in doing UFC bets lately so lets hope it continues tonight, I have 20euro on Clay Guida Vs Nate Diaz to be fight of the night at 3s with Paddy.
I expect GSP to win easily enough. I think he has come on more since their last fight than Penn has. GSP is just a big ball of MMA potential. All sides of his game are solid.
Machida and Silva should be a good fight too. Two undefeated LHW guys going at it. Should be Machida’s fight. It’s hard to know how good Silva is.
Machida has wins over Penn, Franklin, Ortiz and White.
Silva has no real big name wins. He has beaten Houston Alexander who holds a win over Keith Jardine, and a win over James Irvin who has since challenged Anderson Silva at LHW and lost.
I don’t pay enough attention to LW division. I do like Diaz though.
Guida seems to be a bit up and down.
My only concern would be that Diaz would end Guida quickly and ruin your FOTN bet.
I, like the bookies, expect wins for Bonnar, Diaz, Parisyan, Machida and GSP.
Machida and Parisyan might be a little too heavy a favourite. I think GSP could be a stronger favourite.
BJ Penn by ko 5/1 is a nice bet, I’m not going to do it though.
I think BJ Penn is the better fighter but GSP is also a top fighter and a cardio machine so if it goes past 3rounds I think GSP will win, but I have a sneaky feeling BJ will stop him early. Cardio has always been BJs problem and moving up in weight might only add to this yet again.
Just incase this happens I stuck 10double on BJ(13/10) and DH Kim(9/4) against Karo Parisyan. The reason I go for Kim is because the price represents value. Parisyan always relies on his judo throws and Kim is perhaps a better Judo guy, he also has a big height and reach advantage judging by the weigh ins. Also Parisyan hasn’t fought in over a year, is coming off a bad injury and has being recieving treatment for panic attacks(not a great thing to suffer from if a cage fighter).
As you say all will be revealed I can’t wait
I did an accumulator on 6 guys. The five I mention above and Fitch. Favourites all.
Parisyan and Bonnar would both be concerns. Bonnar has been out of the ring a while too with a knee injury but Jon Jones doesn’t seem to have much of a pedigree. Bonnar should have more than enough for Jones if he brings his A game.
Maybe Parisyan’s panic attacks will allow him to tap into some weird primal power that will allow him to knock Kim the fuck out!
Fuck me, what a haymaker reminds me of the lightweight on the Ultimate fighter show this year that said he couldn’t be knocked out and his mate(a light heavy) cracks him one and breaks him in two. Can’t remember his name though(he was Mirs first pick and a right cocky prick)
