Apparently their play-off hopes are gone now too. An awful pity for them considering they have great potential and youâd love to see Haaland and Odegaard at a major tournament. Itâs early days yet for them but theyâll do well to reach the World Cup in 2026 too. Very quickly they could be waiting until 2028.

Ukraine are well good enough to get through the play-offs. They really looked like scoring there any time they came forward.
The knife edge drama nature of that game where one goal can swing everything shows the folly of getting rid of the away goals rule in European club football.
That was a penalty
France in 1988 but it was an 8 team tournament then. Italy failed to qualify for the 8 team Euros in 1982 as World champions.

They have form for winning a comp and then immediately bombing out so
Denmark and Greece failed to qualify for the following World Cup after winning the Euros as well.

I knew the Greece one alright. Never thought the reigning champs had failed to qualify for the euros before though.
