Paul Hunter RIP

A word on the death of one of the best snooker players over the last few years

Doherty robbed him of a World Championship in 2003 when he beat him in the semis

A truly top class player who’s ability will be sorely missed

Don’t know that much about snooker - I know the lad obviously but don’t follow the sport closely enough to remember his abilities. Shocking early death though.

I was very upset to hear about this. I thought the outlook was bright and he was taking this year off to make sure he was feeling fully better before making a return next year. He had a young child too. It’s really terrible, he seemed like a good lad. RIP.

Was shocked by the news too. Saw him on Sky News this morning and was like “jesus, they’re talking in the past tense.” His child was born last St. Stephen’s Day. I reckon he would’ve won the World Championship one day as he liked the longer matches. A real tragedy. Paul Hunter RIP.

I remember him in that match with Doherty where he play one of the best shots ever. The white was tight on the baulk cushion and there was a red in the centre of the table. He somehow managed to pot the red into the bottom corner pocket and screw the white back to the cushion for safety. It is only true quality that can do that.

He was a legend of a bloke as well. His interview after he won his first Masters Trophy 10-9 after being something like 8-3 down was class. It was against Fergal O’Brien. He said the reason for his turnaround was due to the featc he had sex at the interval with his bird at the time. With that out stepped this savage blonde bird. Every bloke watching it must have been cheering him on…

In today’s snooker world, which is dominated by boring, useless, frustrasting bastards like Dott and Ebdon, Hunter will be so sorely missed

RIP

That was a cracking story about him and his bird when he beat O’Brien. That’s the same bird he went on to marry and have the kid with. He wasn’t my favourite player (Doherty always for me) but I always admired his attacking style and the fact he played with a bit of swagger and with a smile on his face. But his laidback style by no means meant he was he soft, he was a hard fooker as his 3 Masters titles, all won after big fightbacks testify. His battle against cancer was also borne with great courage and showed what a tough guy he was. It was very moving watching him play in the Crucible last April when you could see the effects of his illness and the reception he got was superb. What a curse this disease is. God bless him and his family.

I would like to echo those sentiments: It is very sad when a sportsman dies at the peak of his career.

Edited the last bit of that out - not the thread for jokes like that
