PDC World Championships 2016/17

I remember backing Christo Reyes about 5yrs ago to win the tournament at about 750/1 and he gave one of the top seeds (maybe Taylor or MVG) an unbelievable scare in the early rounds and they just stumbled over the line. He has had ability a good while but had a quiet 5yrs since. I really thought he would kick on seemed to go back into the periphery again that time.

Germans are fucking idiots.

Huybrechts takes the opening set against Max Hopp.

Kim 3-0 up and cruising.

German darts fans behaving like Oirish football fans.

Easy peasy for Kim, 4-0. Plays Phil Taylor in the last 16 now.

Kim has the game to trouble Phil but heā€™ll shit his pants as usual.

Wade leads Beaton 3-1.

Irelandā€™s Brendan Dolan predictably bows out 4-0 to Jelle Klaasen.

I say predictably, because try as he might, the unfortunate reality is that Brendan isnā€™t very good at darts.

Predictable is the one word that sums up this tournament so far. Iā€™ve watched very little of it, but just looking at results from Round 2, of the fifteen second round matches completed, seven have finished 4-0 and two have finished 4-1. Only three of the top 16 seeds have been eliminated, all three con-incidentally in the Van Gerwen quarter of the draw.

Any prospect of a competitive match between Lewis and Van Barneveld tonight?

Yes.

I would love it if Barney won this out, love it.

Real darts fans can never forget those great years he gave us between 1998 and 2006 when he was so clearly the best player in the world, even if the incredible strength in depth at the World Championship meant he more often than not did not win it.

Iā€™d pinpoint his decline to late January 2006.

It would be lovely to see him win another tournament, even if itā€™s at the lower level.

If he wins it this year, he will have himself up there with Wolfie Adams as the greatest darts player of his era.

Very difficult to separate them, really. Both are true greats and the very essence of why we love darts.

An in his peak Barney vs an in his peak Wolfie is the dream match up for darting enthusiasts. Sadly Philā€™s Dart Club robbed us of that.

I havenā€™t played computer games since 1997 when I lent a friend my copy of Sensible World of Soccer 95/96 for the Commodore Amiga, and never got it back.

But if I did still play computer games, and if there were such a game as ā€œSensible World of Dartsā€, Barney circa 2003 v Wolfie circa 2010 would be my ultimate fantasy match-up.
