Looks like i was entitled to tax relief on the AVC payments. Did the tax returns on Tuesday online via the revenue website and the money was in my account this morning. Great service.
Revenue are top notch
Yeah I hadn’t done anything in years and was a bit intimidated by it all but I did a bunch of years all in one go there a few months back. I would have been happy with it turning out I owed nothing. Turns out they owed me money and the turnaround was all very fast. Surprised at how good a system it is.
I got my bride to do her tax returns from 2016 onwards. She did the tax returns for four years but obviously paid little heed. She told me she was entitled to about €15 as she had underpaid one year and over paid another.
She ended up getting close to €2500 into her account this morning. Turns out she was due a nice touch due to the emergency tax she was on when she returned to Ireland back in 2016 and hadn’t a notion.
Wonderful news for your little pet.
She is dancing a jig here after I managed to talk her round that it wasn’t an error and they wouldn’t come looking for it back.

Lovely touch. These were the payments made outside of what you make from your gross monthly salary?
My bride spent four hundred quid in Sainsbury’s yesterday
They were made out of bonus/award payments i received from my employer. So technically they would have been taken out of gross salary.
I’m confused by that.
If they were taken out of gross salary then you’ve already got the tax benefit?
Take it up with revenue
Wait til the revenue boss gets back after isolation
I am revenue
Make sure ye link yer PPS numbers as a married couple. If you ask them the revenue will automatically recalculate the best allocation of allowances between you. V useful if there was. A maternity leave or period of part time work and credits wouldn’t have been used
Just got my pension statement. It’s gone up 50% in the last 12 months
Would this be a serious outlier @gilgamboa ?
You will never again see a return like that in a year but I had something similar not quite that high though. Markets just went bananas
Worth looking for but of advice now to see can you put some of thay into a lower risk fund now and wait for a while and see if things settle…
“This fund is designed for the more risk averse, defensive investor looking for better returns than cash but who still require
capital preservation. The fund has a volatility target of 0.5% - 2% over a rolling 5-year period”
What’s your year end date, it’s probably just a correction of the drop that occurred in feb March last year.
That’s what mine did anyway.
It’s a March year end date. The fund itself is up 65% since I started it in 2017
I joined a pension scheme around a similar time and my last report I think it was pretty much on par with contributions
