People who are beginning to give me a pain in the hole

FAO of any managers and/or team captains/leaders on the forum:

I much preferred speeches which reinforced positive things rather than James Hickey’s “do not let yourselves down” type guff.

Breathe it in, embrace it, enjoy it. Don’t be going out with the message “don’t fuck it up” going around your head.

That’s the lad.

That AIB add is bizarre and drives me mental. Basically we sacrificed our lives to pay back the mortgage. The message is terrifying

That’s informative. I wouldn’t have drawn any inference on him. Just got a bit sick of “oi reeely reeely beleeeve”
Which is also meaningless nonsense.
I’d be far more of the go out there with no fear, and enjoy yourself type anyhow, but each to their own.

When was the last time you were in a dressing room to put this into practise? Changing in the back of the car before astro doesn’t count

Your approach seems far more commonplace nowawadays. The roaring and shouting is gone out with the wind.

Dressing room? About 15 months ago.

It applies to meeting room and boardroom too.

If we really really believe this set of financial results are going to be brilliant they will be.

Accountancy is such a knife-edge profession

I want to negotiate a loan margin of Euribor + 3% minimum. Do not come back to the office saying they won’t go higher than 2.5%. Do not let yourselves and the bank down.

+1. That’s a true and fair view if ever I’ve read one.

I was watching that ad in the company of a lady. She said, Fagan, you played a lot of sport in your day, is that what dressing rooms are really like, would a fellow really make a show of himself like that. I said yes, in my day there was always some fucking eejit who took things way too seriously who would go on like that, but some other fellow would puncture his bubble and make a laugh and a skit out of him and your man would be seething by the time he went out on the pitch.

She was amused by this insight in to the world of sport.

Tis different strokes for different teams though. Sometimes fellas need a bit of roaring and shouting to get them to focus. Other times the softly, softly everything positive approach works, the key is knowing when to use it.

If there wasn’t a hurley bate off the table you were at nothing.

I remember our u16 manager breaking a hurley off the table before we went out to play Croagh and by God didn’t we go out and play them off the field.

Great management, probably had it half broke before the speech started.

And Joe Kernan gets made a great man of for merely doing a rip off of it.

Yeah but you have five bedrooms with ensuites, marble floors and decking. So what’s the fucking problem?

The problem is all the kids have fucked up teeth.
