There was a certain level of acrimony between the bould Glenn and Fearghal McKee of Whipping Boy back in the day. Fearghal always wanted to be a rock star, nothing would do but to be the best of the best. Glenn on the other hand was happy busking, earning a few bob and just shuffling along, little or no ambitions for world domination.
Of course we all know how the stories unfolded since. Which makes the final few lines of Fearghals âWhen We Were Youngâ all the more poignant.
With a start he was awoken From the middle of a dream Heâs making movies in his head That never will be seen Heâs holding Oscars in his hands And kissing beauty queens What might have been What might have been When we were young
Fearghal was just destined to be one of lifes losers.
Martin Sheen turned Ray Darcy on his hole one day on Today FM. Martin was promoting The Way, Emilioâs take on the Camino. Of course Martinâs faith was to the fore, and Darcy the know it all bastard couldnt help himself driving the conversation to his own aetheism. Martin told him that was grand, that was Rays belief and he was entitled to it as Martin was to his. Ray stopped him and explained that he had no belief. Martin said, but you believe there is nothing dont you, thats a belief. Ray wasnât having this of course, and fought Martin for a wee bit before giving in eventually and talking about the movie. Martin never once got animated or sounded perplexed, just took him on at every turn with his inimitable style and class. A proper star is Martin.
martin gave hos word to god and has held to that. darcy gave his word that hed leave the country if enda became taoiseach, a snivelly cunt who isnt to be trusted
Who said it was a big deal? It was the class of a man like Sheen that he tolerated the gobshite, buried him with one clatter and kept his faith and the love of his sons movie to the forefront at all times.
TBF to Martin, heâs lived a life, and some. His faith came from some dark dark times, and that he came out of them as strongly as he did is a testament to him, and of course the strong Tipperary blood flowing in his veins.
To be all of this and the father of Charlie, well its some going.
