Players who were "the next big thing" but never did anything (much)

But now people are going to start talking about how Larry O’Whackdeball and Timmy De’Swingastick were great prospects and never made it.

To be fair Larry was good, but jaysus you should have seen his brother Shamus, he was different class altogether, just too fond of the fucking drink.

Stokes had stacks of ability but, as you know MBB, he was never the smartest lad in the world!

Louis O’Puckdefooka was an alright sort.

Can’t say I ever had the pleasure of meeting him, a few slices short of a full loaf yea?

Micheal Hoyne was the class act of underage hurling in Kilkenny in the early nineties, among the best ive ever seen at underage level only to be dogged by back injuries,he still hurls for the club.

There ya go Flano.

Pa Bourke can be added to this list now I think.

The Drink and The Women did for Jimmy.

And he’s over weight.

Didn’t Stokes score last night for Hibs?

Stokes knows he can be out 3 or 4 nights a week and will still be able to bang them in up there.

Goals or women?

Kerill Wade should be on this now. Great minor, decent U-21, not sure what happened to him since.

Hi-larious Hup

Was in ahead of Ger Farragher 3 years ago, which I thought was a disgrace.

Terry Dixon scored the opener for West Ham in a friendly last night.

Two players came to my mind earlier today, one was Darren Eadie, looked like the next big thing at Norwick and was in contention for the england world cup team in 1998 and never really kicked on, think he suffered a few bad injuries…

The second was Kevin Hofland, he was touted as the next Jaap Stam in the early part of this decade, think he played for Holland in lansdowne in 2001 and there was talks of him making a big money move to some of the big guns Europe in around the time, have heard very little of him since, think he is still playing for PSV
