Post your favourite Christmas song (apart from Fairytale of New York)

Rock the boat is one of my Christmas favs.

2000 miles pretenders and Jona Lewie’s stop the cavalry in a dead heat. Honourable mention to drummer boy Bowie/Crosby

Fairytale of NY.

Ex pats are permitted to say so.

“Have yourself a merry little Christmas” again for me. Sung well, it has a melancholy air, and leaves the impression that the singer doesn’t really believe any of it will really happen.
If the fates allow indeed.

Just heard Sinead O’Connor singing Scarlet Ribbons on the radio there. It would melt a heart of stone.

This is a belter. One of the backbones of my late fall running soundtrack:

About 4 years ago Tom Dunne had her on his now defunct morning show on Newstalk. She sang Scarlet Ribbons live in the studio unaccompanied. Poor old Tom was choking up completely when it was finished and had to go to an ad break.

Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And, as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain

I have that on vinyl. Haven’t played it in ages but it still invokes memories. The 80s. We will never see their like again.

It was on my iTunes playlist as it was from my spell in NYC. A nice little Christmas task might be for me to transpose that playlist to Spotify. I’ll keep you posted, pal.
