Premier League 2018/19

OK mate. I’m just reminding you of the history of Tottenham.

West Ham is a very losable game for sure. The Irons are a very up and down side, and they’re coming off a bad couple of games, which could mean they’ll be very dangerous opponents indeed. It does help that we have a five day gap rather than three or four, especially given that West Ham played last night and we played tonight, but it’s a game I’m very wary of. If we did get the win, it would be a huge bounce back from tonight’s disappointment. I’d be reasonably confident we’ll beat Bournemouth in 10 days’ time. Win those and we’d be going into the big one at Old Trafford on February 24th with a minimum five point cushion.

Huge run of fixtures now for Manchester City. Arsenal at home on Sunday, followed by Everton at Goodison Park this night week, then Chelsea back at Maine Road the following Sunday.

After last night’s defeat, that’s Christmas programme-like in its difficulty. However I think they’ll win the two home games against the London teams, with perhaps the Everton fixture being the best chance of them dropping points. Arsenal are very brittle, while Chelsea look to have downed tools. If I was offered Manchester City taking 7 points from those 9, I’d take it.

All three teams at the top are now showing serious signs of tiredness. But that’s not surprising given it’s the toughest league in the world.

I’d give Arsenal more of a chance of a point than Everton. They will lie down.

I don’t see that happening. It’s not an end of season situation and they’ll be desperate for a big result to turn their season around somewhat. Doesn’t mean they’ll be good enough to get it, but I don’t see them downing tools.

City have looked very tired recently. Against Huddersfield they spent most of the first half walking around rather than running in a clear attempt to conserve energy. They tried it again last night and got caught big time - and had nothing to give when things went against them.

No EPL team “ lies down” * . The league oozes integrity .

Chelsea lie down frequently when they’re in tools downed mode.

When’s the Chelsea lad getting sacked? Embarrassing stuff last night

The most embarrassing performance from a top 6 side against one of the also rans in a long time.

Man City got a similar beating by a Leicester side who was falling apart in Pep’s first season

That winning Chelsea mentality that @Cicero_Dandi was telling us only last week is evident every time Chelsea go out to play seemed to be missing last night.

what is this now?

Chelsea have two trophies in two seasons. They know what it takes to be successful. I did question the decision to replace a serial winner like Conte with an idealist like Sarri.

The Russian oligarch is now learning that you only get out of a club what you Putin.

Chelsea’s time as one of the elite coterie of super-franchises looks to be coming to an end.

I wonder will we see them return to their natural place as a yo-yo team before too long.

Once Putin reigned in the spending and Chelsea had to start balancing the books it was only a matter of time before they reverted to type. If they finish outside the top 4 this year it’ll speed up the process.

Presuming Chelsea finish outside the top four this season, and they will, it’ll be the third time in four seasons that they have done so.

Failure has become acceptable there and once that happens it’s hard to break out of that cycle again.

Their best chance is if Dubai or Saudi Arabia or some other head chopping regime comes in and buys them for cut price after Brexit.

If Hazard goes this summer, as looks likely, they are in serious bother. I wouldn’t be surprised either to see Kante leave for one of the elite coterie of Manchester super-franchises or Barcelona or Real Madrid.

The age profile of their squad is very poor and they’ll need a serious rebuilding job to challenge again.

Can’t see that happening under the current owner.

Don’t they have a bazillion lads out on loan surely a few of them will come good

A few might come good for other clubs.

Chelsea have won trophies in the past two seasons and are in another Cup final in a month’s time.

When they are putting their eggs in winning mickey mouse cups, you know the game is up.
