Premier League 2018/19

Liverpool with 51% possession tonight. Pep learning to win ugly.

Thatā€™s not true. Both defences played it out a lot through the narrowest of passing lanes.

The energy and athleticism were different level from both sides.

In 9 of the last 13 seasons, and five of the last six, the team that has won the league has lost at least once in the league to the team that finished second.

That record could still be extended to 10 in 14 this season - Tottenham still have to come to Anfield in late March.

Chelsea lost comprehensively at Tottenham at the same stage of the season two years ago and dropped ten more points that season. A similar record for us over the remainder of this season would leave us with a finishing total of 95 points, which Iā€™m satisfied will likely be enough to take the title.

The last game of the Christmas period isnā€™t the worst to lose - it gives you time to breath and regroup.

The bottom line is Liverpool have gained ground on their rivals over the Christmas period.

They did when they didnā€™t have pressure on them, if a ball broke near the box it was immediately hacked away the majority of the time

That was a damn good game of ball

Not necessarily true.

Van Dijkā€™s standard body position. He never wants to build out from the back on his left. Heā€™s basically refusing the ball there with his body position, and he does it all the time. When the ballā€™s actually circulated across the backline to him in the left centre back position he invariably chops back on his right and knocks it back over to the right back or goes for the big diagonal to the right wing. This limits Liverpoolā€™s ability to build from the back as theyā€™re cutting off half the pitch.

Nandrolone. Surprised at Ewan making such an elementary spelling mistake.

A lot of truth in that, 50-50 game in truth, a draw would have been fair, Kompany could well have seen red

City had better chances, all Liverpool had were a few punts in the box hoping Ederson would flap at them.

Thatā€™s incorrect.

City only created good chances on the break late on when Liverpool had to leave themselves open at the back. Liverpool had had the considerably better chances up to that.

Aguero staying on the ground for an eternity in the lead up to his goal was very clever though. It meant Lovren couldnā€™t keep tabs on him.

Soccer ball is fucked if youā€™re dependant on the EPL.
I rarely (if ever) invest 3 hours of my rapidly diminishing life in watching it.
Tonight, because of family pressures and with copious quaffes of drink I stuck it outā€¦

Observations:
The poverty of one-legged tossers is shambolic. Robertson, Salah.
The utter uselessness of Henderson is visible to Stevie Wonder.
The spatial awareness /timing technique of Lovren is beyond laughable.

The City goalie (Ederson?) is a fucking chancer of dubious reliability.
Kompany is a bet docket.
The little guy Aguerro? is top notch.

Overall summation : Liverpool to win the title by a comfortable margin.

I think the best Liverpool deserved out of that was a draw.

Iā€™m glad they donā€™t have to go to City again. 17 games to go. Homes v Chelsea and Spurs, and an away against OGSā€™s resurgent Man Utd, and 14 games against the rest of the dross in the league

Only Liverpool can find a way to fuck it up from here

Liverpool won on expected goals so thatā€™s as good as a win anyway

Agreed

Michael Cox is a busted flush.

Heā€™s bang on about Kompany in fairness

I think a draw would have been fair, but again, thatā€™s football. Sometimes you donā€™t get what you should.

Liverpool have eight away games left.

Brighton
West Ham
Manchester United
Fulham
Everton
Southampton
Cardiff
Newcastle

Iā€™d be reasonably confident of taking at least six wins from those eight.

8 of the 12 games against the other big six (including Everton) are out of the way.

Itā€™s the tricky home games we really need to avoid droppng points in and thereā€™s a few of those coming up. Palace, Leicester, Watford etc. Theyā€™re the dropped points that tend to derail title challenges.

Weā€™ve dropped 9 points so far. Dropping another nine would leave us on 96. I think that would be a tremendously appropriate total to finish on.

Liverpoolā€™s problem with the dross is law of averages. Theyā€™ve won 14 out of 14 against opposition outside Top 6. Youā€™re nearly always guaranteed a few horror results that happen inexplicably - Chelsea drawing at home to the appalling Southampton last night. Spurs losing to Wolves on Saturday, City at home to Crystal Palace the week before.

Youā€™ve backed up my post there my brother, appreciated.
