Premiership Sack Race 2008/2009

How may will get the road this year or how many will walk due to the pressure?

We can count out the ones that are safe as houses straight away…Lord Ferg, Wenger, Martin O Neill, Roy, Southgate, and David Moyes.

Phil Brown, Tony Mowbray and Tony Pulis should also be safe as they are expected to go back down and haven’t gone overboard spending money. Expactations are that they will struggle.

Scolari and Ramos will surely be given at least one full season also.

That leaves - Curbs, Hughes, Keegan, Ince, 'Arry, Rafa, Hodgson, Megson and Bruce.

Curbs is the obvious one…booed off last night and spend a right few quid between this year and last year…Extremely unpopular with the fans anyway due to style of football… Had Ferdinand sold against his wishes…probably will be the first to go.

Hughes - God knows what is going to happen at City…one thing is for sure…he is not getting what he signed up for…may walk out.

Keegan - Keegan seems extremely frustrated. Dennis Wise is running the show as regards tranfers and now Milner wants out…Alan Smith almost sold against Keegans wishes…Ashley couldn’t fire him but again Keegan may walk.

Ince - If Blackburn start to lose a few matches they will be saying he is too inexperianced and may get the road. Rumours of dressing room unrest to contend with already.

'Arry…has spent heavily must deliver. Not the most loyal of fish either - if a bigger job comes along he will go for it.

Rafa - fractous relationship with owners/board. Ex plyers constantly carping. He is lucky they got through last night. A few injuries to key players could put Rafa under pressure as there is no real depth to Liverpool’s squad…A possible to be fired and/or walk.

Hodgson - has spent a few quid. Must keep out of the bottom three or will get fired.

Megson - looks safe enough but Chairman has been known to pull the trigger if things go sour.

Bruce - Just needs to keep out of bottom three - if he does this he should be safe.

History tells us that 5/6 of the above will not be in their jobs come the end of the season.

Opinions?

Good list Tipp.

From the top I’d expect one of Mowbray, Pulis or Brown to be gone by the end of the season. It may be that they resign to give the team a chance of staying up or they may be so far adrift at the bottom of the league that there’s no chance for them and the manager is booted out. I’d wager Pulis might go.

Of the others I think Curbishley and Keegan will be gone by Chrismas. Keegan has already lost his assistant and Wise is obviously an arsehole to have above you. He may not be sacked but Wise will be asked to help at training or something and Keegan will be constructively dismissed. Curbishley looks well on his way obviously.

Think Hodgson and Ince will be safe enough, but don’t see Megson lasting it out. Once they get in trouble he’ll get very negative and they’ll get rid.

I wouldnt count Megson safe at all. Hes spent decent money on Elmander and Muamba, and if they’re struggling below one of the promoted teams I think he’ll get the chop.

the sack/walk away race will come down to curbs, keegan, benitez, hughes, ince, megson, ramos and moyes.

megson u would think should be safe but the bolton fans dont like him.

keegan the favourite for me to walk away before xmas with wise to replace him

Yep, I agree broadly with both of you.

The West Ham supporters seem to despise Curbishley and there’s only so long a manager can last in that environment.

I considered having a few quid on Ince to be first EPL manager sacked a few weeks ago when the stories of squad unrest first appeared but he’s had a solid start and the media clamour will probably move onto someone else now.

I think one of the 3 promoted managers might go too if they fall adrift, even though not many would expect them to do much in the top flight with the squads they have. Look at Derby last season and their decision to sack Davies even though Mourinho, Ferguson or Scolari wouldn’t have kept that squad up.

Keegan seems to be in a difficult position there. Milner has asked for a transfer and it’s apparently because Wise is refusing to renegotiate his contract even though Keegan wants to reward him for good form and to secure his long-term future. There’s also the issue of Owen’s future and, again, Keegan wants it sorted but the board are digging their heels in over terms. It’s one that could turn sour over the coming weeks all right.

Curbs was seen as the saviour in the Press when he was brought in, I remember being off that day and watching it happen on SSN. Tony Cottee was on saying he was the number one choice. Me hoop, would have taken plenty more before him.

He kept us up and all credit to him but at that stage the players, who had lived the Championship ‘dream’ before probably said to themselves fook that, I’m not going back down there. They pulled up their collective sleeves and with the help from a lickle baby hulk, stayed up (In your face Sheff Utd!!)

Then he goes and spends on what can only be regarded as dodgy signings. Neil/Upson/Taffy Bellend/Dyer/Parker/Boa Morte/Quashie are either injury prone, too old or just rubbish. All on big wedge and I know some of the responsibility lies with the club but Curbs should have a major say in this.

West Ham Athletic as it’s now known as by some did the same as other Curbs lead teams have done: start good, get safe by Valentines then do fuck all till the end of the year. I’m not saying he’s the worst in the world but the Hammers will win nothing with him.

Keegan has apparently offered his resignation to the Newcastle board.

i would love it if he quit…love it…

He was the saviour for them. No way they would have survived without him, ungratefull bastards in West Ham, would they prefer to be playing Brazilian football in the Championship? Can’t have it everyway.

Keegan is gone!!!

Newcastle United are believed to have parted company with manager Kevin Keegan, according to reports on Tuesday.

Keegan came back to St James’ Park in January for a second spell as the Magpies boss and after a shaky start to his second stint started to appear to be pulling the North East club in the right direction.

However, it has now emerged that Keegan is understood to have left Newcastle following a meeting with the clubs hierarchy early on Tuesday.

One of the issues that had been troubling keegan was the enforced sale of James Milner to Aston Villa, who Keegan did not want to see leave for Villa Park.

Though it is not known if Keegan has resigned or indeed been sacked by Newcastle it is understood that he has parted company with the club for a second time.

If he did walk out on the Toon it would be the second time Keegan has quit Newcastle, having walked away in 1997 after they failed to win the Premier League.

Please put Dennis Wise in charge - this would be the greatest comedy the premiership has ever seen.

Joey Barton for player manager.

Alan Curbishley’s future is reportedly in doubt after a dressing-room argument with Lucas Neill.

According to The Independent, West Ham’s captain told his manager that the players had “kept you in a job” in front of the rest of the squad, and that Curbishley was not showing enough leadership qualities.

The clash reportedly came after West Ham’s 4-1 win over Blackburn on Saturday, after Curbishley told Neill that he needed to ‘inspire’ the players more.

The scoreline in that game flattered West Ham, with two late goals making the win look much more comfortable that it actually was. Indeed, Curbishley admitted himself in a post-match interview that the dressing room was ‘lively’ after they let Blackburn back into the game. Matthew Upson and of all people Craig Bellamy also reportedly had strong words.

Despite The Indepedent’s claim that Curbishley still has the support of ‘most of the dressing room’, The Guardian claims he has indicated he would be willing to leave in the near future.

They report Curbishley has suggested he would be ‘willing to accept a severance package’, as he becomes more and more disillusioned with the way the club is trying to cut costs.

The deadline day sale of George McCartney appears to have been the last straw for Curbishley, which along with the sales of Anton Ferdinand and John Paintsil has left his defensive cover shockingly light.

Curbishley was told the club was in talks with both Paolo Ferreira and Juliano Belletti from Chelsea, but neither signing emerged.

Indeed, Curbishley was angry that the club failed to complete the registration of Congo left-back Hrita Ilunga and forward David di Michele in time, with the loan signing of the pair belatedly announced on Tuesday.

Curbishley is expected to hold talks with Hammers chief executive Scott Duxbury in the next few days, with a ‘mutual agreement’ and severance package thought to be the best way of saving face for all concerned.

Curbs is gone, gone, gone…

Curbs has resigned.

From BBC:

Alan Curbishley has resigned as manager of Premier League club West Ham United.

Curbishley tendered his resignation on Wednesday and it was accepted by West Ham owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson.

Who am I going to rant on about now? If it was the players who instigated it I’ll be pissed off. But in fairness, never had the confidence for the man. Great that he kept us up but last year was a bit of a mishmash. I’m not saying we’re a big club or anything but we’re not the smallest either.

Who’ll take over? Can’t even think of a name to the honest. Glen Hoddle? Big Sam? Kevin Keegan

How about Stan?

MMB, go waay bouy will ya!
