Pubs To Frequent

Next to a Paddy Powers after all

McNeills on Capel Street is the only pub worth frequenting in that area

No loss in the grand scheme of things.

Iā€™d be a fan of Pipers Corner if it ever opens again. Briodys on Marlborough St not the worst either. Iā€™d occasionally frequent the bar in Wynns Hotel too which isnā€™t the worst though itā€™s a bit bright and sometimes populated by priests and nuns on secret trysts.

Lovely stuff. If only I had a reason to go into town. It was a grand spot to have a jar while waiting for the 31 (now the H3).

Is this still a thing? Are there any nuns left to put out?

Geoff Power the owner of the renowned Geoffs pub in Waterford has passed away at what I imagine is a reasonably young age, he canā€™t have been 70. He will be reposing in the pub on Friday night.

That takes me back. I canā€™t imagine many other pubs that could somehow hold the ā€œRemovalā€

Murphys In Brandon(October to march)
Walshes in knocknagoshel
The dame tavern

Thatā€™s some trifecta in one day.

I hear itā€™s a fantastic racing pub. Racing tv on one tv and at the races on another without exception

Alcohol and gambling have ruined too many Christmases.

No surprises to hear the right wing want everything banned

Weā€™re not banning Christmas unlike the looney left.

I donā€™t think Years said that.

He didnā€™t. The quote was on the WB Yeats inspired DCM medal this year & then it transpired he never said it. They also inscribed ā€œNoble Prize winnerā€ on the medal & some sorts were apoplectic about the farrago.

You donā€™t have to traipse to Enniskillen to have a pint with some lonely auld widow,Iā€™m sure thereā€™s plenty in Clonlara or your local in Dublin.

Never been in here cc @Malarkey

Good article, thanks very much. Interesting to have the Engels background.

Was in The Salisbury at least once to my memory. Kind of has been ā€˜done upā€™ abortively. Worth visiting, in fairness, but not at all in same league, for me, as the Pev or The Britons.

This poster was a regular feature in pubs across the county.

How many still going in either the same or a different guise?

Delaneys in Askeaton went through two different guises and is currently closed.
