Pure Mule star Tom Murphy dies

Only saw this now. He must have been very young - rip. From rte.ie:

The death has taken place of the award-winning actor Tom Murphy.

He won a Tony Award for his role in the Druid Theatre Company production of ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’ in 1998.

One of Ireland’s most acclaimed young actors, his screen credits included ‘Adam and Paul’, ‘Man About Dog’, ‘Intermission’, ‘Small Engine Repair’ and the RT Television series ‘Pure Mule’.

Audiences attending plays as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival on Saturday night applauded the actor after the announcement of his death was made.

Paying tribute, Druid’s Artistic Director Garry Hynes said: “All of us in Druid are terribly saddened by the premature death of Tom Murphy. Tom won a Tony Award on Broadway for his wonderful portrayal of ‘Ray Dooley’ in Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’. A wonderful colleague and friend, he will be much missed by his many friends in the film and theatre business.”

Read in the Herald last night that he was only 39, well to young to die. RIP.

I’d say it was drugs

They said he was 36 and it was cancer in the Sun.

Cancer is a vicious drug.

It’s quite cheap though, only 7.05 a pack!

It was cancer alright - he’d been sick for a while apparently.

Cracking actor in Adam and Paul and Pure Mule anyway.
