Question for carheads

We’re looking to buy a small van. Our business takes us around the sweet Isle and we’ll soon be buying our own wheels.
Need a smallish van type thing.

My main questions are;

  1. Are there any particular brands with excellent tax/fuel efficiencies(I’m presuming it’ll all be diesel)?
  2. Is there anything sneaky/unreliable about certain brands?
  3. Anything else of which I should be made aware.

Thanks in advance gents.

vw caddy

Those 3 wheel vans look great and presumably they’re more efficient because there’s less wear and tear on the tyres.

Wouldn’t be a fan of Citroen’s but have heard good word for Berlingo vans from lads I know with them. But van’s aren’t something I know much about am afraid.

VW Caddy…

I have one since 2007 and given it dogs abuse. Great fuel efficiency and solid. Serious poke when needed too.

Drove a Renualt Kangoo for 6 months a few years ago… avoid it.

Ta KP. Is there a particular time or mileage I should look out for? Particularly in terms of when everything needs replacing or the likes.

130,000 miles on mine and the first casulaty is the shocks which i’ll have to replace this year. Thats mainly due to doing a bit of herding most mornings and driving down a bad boreen for about 2 miles.

I hear the clutch should have given trouble by now but no problems, i’d rarely pull anything behind ity in fairness.

I think its the same model from 2004 to now. A clean 07 with the timing belt done maybe?

caddys take dogs abuse like KP said but you could consider toyota auris van or a focus van

Those Caddys are nice but expensive enough. What do ye make of Golfs? I’ve been told by a mechanic relation of mine that they are the worst car to buy as they are over-valued and give fierce trouble…

Clicking noise in engine at the mo. Timing belt?

What milage? If you even suspect it’s the timing belt you need to go to garage ASAP

Have owned two in the past without any bother whatsoever. Good resale value too

nearly 130k, 10 year old focus.

seems to be a little jumpy at the moment too, like there is dirty petrol or something in it. I have been told that the fuel filter prob needs to be replaced.

its only back from servicing a few weeks so not sure how the cunts would miss things like a fuel filter that needs replacing

Assume it’s not the original TB?
