Ten years for possession/selling a few kilos of weed is absolutely preposterous. The only justification for a prison sentence is selling to minors.
Where are you getting the ten years from? (Upper) middle-class kids with no convictions donāt get nailed like that in Oireland.

@artfoley posted up the link there. Presumptive minimum sentence for possession with intent to supply where value is in excess of 13k unless thereās exceptional circumstances.
I seriously doubt they have the money for any extensive legal fees.
Of course there are exceptional circumstances. Shure if you have the fortune to be in a family exceptional enough to have a member avoid jail for the downloading, and hence propagation of hard core, depraved paedophilia, Iād say the judge will hand back the weed with an apology for the misunderstanding.

Iād imagine 80-90% of crime is legal aid. @artfoley could probably give you the figure. Youād still get a decent barrister Iād imagine. All the top criminal guys do legal aid as well.
Getting caught with 30k of drugs is a recipe for disaster.
