Rachel from Countdown

I always admired Fry and am disappointed in him.

Dont know enough about the labour thing but i would doubt Corbyn was anti semitic. They just used it as an excuse to get rid of him

My biggest issue, and I’m sure it is a lot of people too, is that I dont equate a jew as being responsible or hate on them for what is happening in Palestine, but I think the Israeli state is a complete shit show of genocidal scumbags. The fact they happen to be jews is irrelevant. I get that a lot of the overall issues between the countries is based on religion, but its not on Jewish people who arent even anywhere close to the conflict or Israel. Granted, its not entirely black and white, but to perceive any sort of criticism of Israel as automatically being anti semite is beyond ridiculous.

You’re spot on.

But Israel and the Jewish lobby have advanced the idea that criticism of Israel is antisemitism to the point where it has become accepted and even official in many places. Below is the most commonly referred to definition of antisemitism. It’s a fair definition at the outset. After some time the examples were added, including a few relating to Israel, that to my mind and yours from what you say above, are not antisemitic, they’re political. The guy who wrote the definition has disavowed the examples. Nevertheless this definition has been adopted widely and has been officially adopted in most of Germany the US and the UK including in universities. You can see how this would run into problems. Speak out against Israel in a university that has adooted this and you may be sanctioned or lose your job. An international Jewish coalition has worked up an alternative definition, also with examples, including examples of criticism of Israel that are and are not antisemitic. But the one below is the one with all the lobbying behind it.

Agree on Fry.

Never knew enough detail on the labour thing but in hindsight think it was a witchhunt. I think one MP was forced to resign for saying “from the river to the sea”. I’m sure Sid will have the detail on it.

Yer man Chris Williamson was thrown out of the party for saying folk had tried to weaponise anti-semitism to use it against Corbyn. Think he was an MP at the time & a close Corbyn ally.

Not specific to the investigations but Corbyn was pulled up on his ‘my friends from Hamas’ phrase. His backtracking on it was not very impressive and he seemed to give multiple versions of the same story.

Zionism is the real problem here. The equation of a religion with a state. It is the same for states which are governed by the Qur’an.

The Israeli ambassador was at it in the Irish times today:

Then there is the issue of anti-Semitism. Of course, criticising Israel is not anti-Semitic; it is legitimate to criticise any country, any government. To our concern, however, criticism of Israel in Ireland has crossed a line. Delegitimising Israel and Zionism as a whole is anti-Semitic. Zionism is the national identity of the Jewish people. Why then in Ireland do many people, including many politicians and commentators, think it perfectly acceptable to deny my people’s national identity? Why is Zionism the only national identity called into question by some Irish people?

I thought this was a clever way to describe her.

What did she tweet this time?

I know of case here of anti semetism and its disgusting

In Ireland or TFK? I’m absolutely sure there are a lot of anti semites and a lot of anti semitism, but the point of criticising Israel as being automatically anti-semitic shouldn’t hold true.

Ireland and agreed on the second point

What’s the case in Ireland?
