I asked for a shoulder of pork in my local butchers last week. He said no bother Il have to go out the back for the pig and Il get it for you…ha ha ha says i

2 minutes later in he comes with half a pig over his shoulder. Proceeds to carve off the shoulder of pork for me. About 7kgs of it. He took the skin off it and carved it in three for me

I made pulled pork there Monday with the first lump of it leaving it marinate overnight in a hape of soy sauce elbow lane smokehouse rub some cider and a few overripe apples chopped up. Slow cooked it for the day Monday and we had three meals out of it…had it with spuds and carrots monday…had it in a bap for tea then Wednesday and ate the rest of it there over a load of tortilla chips with hot sauce and a bit of cheese

He gave me the skin to bring home…anyone any experience of making crackling on its own off the meat…id imagine you could make ‘pork scratchings’ of some sort

I remember the year there was a man in the running. It was quite emotional I remember. His wife had died and the kids nominated him because he kept the show on the road. Seemed a great sort

How ya getting on with the cycling? You’re getting great mileage in. Hope to get out on bike tomorrow. Got out for two runs this week (short ones -7 and 5k) but getting a little bit more consistent.

OK, I did nearly 50 k this morning, 28kph, Could go on forever except for the arse

I’m running an hour or so most days and do long runs when the missus is off, might as well do the hard work now while I can
