Re: GAA Next Weekend

Clare and Cork players suspended for four weeks
12/06/2007 - 12:23:42

Suspensions have been imposed on Clare players Barry Nugent, Alan Markham, Andrew Quinn and Colin Lynch, and Corks Sean g hAilpn, Diarmuid O’Sullivan and Dnal g Cusack, the GAA has confirmed.

The suspensions were decided at a meeting of the Central Hearings Committee in Croke Park last night.

The four-week suspensions, arising out of incidents at the Guinness Munster Hurling Championship quarter final game between Clare and Cork, will include the next game in the competition (even if that game falls outside the suspension time period) and are the minimum provided for in Rule for the relevant infractions.

No suspension was imposed on Cork’s John Gardiner (Cork)

The following fines were also confirmed:

Cork and Clare County Boards - 5,000 each (for conduct of players)

Cork County Board - 2,500 (for failure to comply with instructions issued by Comhairle na Mumhan)

was reading that on rte earlier and was quite amused to see the bit about john gardner getting off typed a little below a picture of him pretty much punching colin lynch in the face. i’d be interested to hear the grounds on which he was less guilty than the others

Anybody looking for a ticket for Sunday?

farmer, quite inexplicably, asked me to get him a ticket but has now decided he doesn’t want to go.

Think he’s to go back to Leitrim to mow John Ellis’ lawn.

One caveat; you’d have to sit beside Jugs and I.

I may take that off you. I have two but to be honest I’m not sure about the personnel they involve sitting with.

Well let me know for definite as soon as you can in order that it finds a good home.

I’m anxious for it not to get into Dublin hands so you’d fit the bill.

What area of the ground is it Bandage - Raven won’t take it if its not a corporate box !!!

I know the feeling Farmer…Louth vs Wexford / Dublin vs Meath doesnt appeal to me either. I’m just going in to take my mind off Sunday week

Dublin have announced the same team for the game as last time around.

I hope Colly Moran’s captaincy doesn’t mean he has to start every game because frankly he’s not good enough. Connolly v Vaughan was the main consideration. I thought Connolly did ok, just panicked a bit when he had the ball but he’ll improve from the experience. I’d still be looking at bringing Ryan back into midfield. You need someone there who’ll show for the ball all day.

Im hoping that team is a red herring and there will be a couple of changes announced before the game. There is not enough scoring potential in that half forward line. Keaney and Brogan arent going to score 9 or 10 points between them every game.

You need at least 4 scoring forwards nowadays - something Dublin dont have in that starting XV

it changed when Tyrone failed to win the All Ireland in 95 with Canavan on his own. Over the years they introduced more scoring forwards like Mulligan, O’Neill, Cavlan etc to complement Canavan. This resulted in them winning an All Ireland.

Happy now !!!

Dublin are an average team Raven. If you took off your Blue and Navy glasses you would realise this. They would not win Ulster, Munster or Connacht this year.

I dont see any county in Leinster winning an All Ireland in the near future. I believe that, in Leinster, there is 1 county that does not participate, 1 county who are atrocious, 1 who are poor, 6 who are mediocre but wont win a provincial title anytime soon and 3 who are capable of winning a Delaney Cup but Sam remains a far off dream.

I don’t understand the nonsense about Leinster being a weak province. They throw the same crap out in hurling where the Munster Championship is seen as the be all and end all. They forget how good Kilkenny are in hurling.

In football it ignores just how easy provincial championships are for Kerry, Mayo and Galway. There’s a ridiculous notion that Leinster champions are easy picking which is absolute rubbish. If Dublin had held on against Mayo last year would anyone have changed their minds? I know that’s dealing in the hypothetical but anyone who saw that game knows Dublin could and should have won. Leinster is not a problem - it’s just an easy badge to tag a group of counties with. It’s no less competitive than Connacht or Ulster.

Wexford team vs Louth:

Cooper
Morris; Wallace; Malone;
N.Murphy; D.Murphy; Morrissey;
Bradley; Stafford;
Deeley; Barry; Flynn;
Lyng; Colfer; Forde;

That looks our best available team to me and Im confident ahead of Sunday. Was surprised the Cooper, Wallace, Murphy full back line was opened up so easily against Offaly and Meath last year so even though Brian Malones come in and done well since the qualifiers and all through this seasons league Im slightly concerned about how tight well be at the back. I like the midfield combination and though both have been injured at various stages of the season Im expecting big things from them. The set of forwards has a nice balance and while Colfer sometimes feels the pace of the high octane matches against the likes of Dublin he was a good foil in the League for Lyng and Forde. Lyng has been a great find and I hope Matty is both physically and mentally ready for the championship as hell receive a lot of attention from opposition players and supporters after that Offaly defender fell under his boot last year.

your being a little pedantic here Raven. my point was that dublin dont have enough scoring forwards for sunday and that keaney and brogan should not be relied on to kick the scores every game…another couple of forwards to help out would not go amiss e.g : vaughan or bernard brogan

you say ward had the game of his life - when did you see him play previously ?? see we can all be a little pedantic if we want to be !!!

i dont believe dublin to be top 5

I suppose Rock it depends how you define “weak”. It is the 2nd most competitive province as a lot of the counties are around the same level and there are plenty of close matches. But it is weak when you consider if any of the counties are actual All Ireland contenders.

Leinster hasnt provided the All Ireland winners this century. They havent been represented in the final since 2001. The other 3 provinces have all been represented in just the last 2 years.

As for Dublin’s run last year, Mayo were the 1st non Leinster team they came up against and what do you know - they came up short. You can talk all ya like about they cudda wudda shudda beaten Mayo but the fact is they didnt. Mayo have beaten Dublin 3 times in the past 18 months. Coincidence? Dont think so - its because they are a better side at the moment.

I would love to see Dublin win an All Ireland soon but my opinion is that it won’t happen for a good while yet

I just think too much is made of the province of Leinster not making an All Ireland final. What does that have to do with Dublin? Are Cork better than Dublin because Kerry are better than Laois? Stats about Leinster’s achievements are irrelevant.

If Dublin are good enough they’ll make a final. Coming out of Leinster won’t be a hindrance to that.

Do you think they are good enough Rock ?

ward was said to have had the game of his life by all commentators after the game

you made a lame point about in this day an age you need 4 scoring forwards - when would 2 or 3 sufficed?

name your top 5 teams?

Not the point I’m making Baby (though I do think they’re well capable of winning an All Ireland this year). My point is that you’re just suggesting that a team from Leinster won’t win an All Ireland as though they’re all one incapable bunch for some reason. Because Cork are from Munster or Roscommon are from Connacht does not mean they have a better chance than Dublin. Leinster is neither a help nor a hindrance, it’s an irrelevancy.
