Re: liverpool fans

I thought Juve fans turned their back to liverpool fans when that happened? Could be wrong though.

shut up raven! ur very good with your generalisations!!

the generalisation i refer to is that ‘liverpool fans are scum’!

however, point taken that watever minority of so-called liverpool fans are saying tings like you have pointed out on other forums is disgraceful.

why is that worth reading? Is it worth reading that i know of some celtic fans that go to celtic park and spend the whole game shouting abuse at either hearts fans or rangers fans and not even watch the match? No its not because i know that doesnt represent the majority of the celtic fans so I wouldnt even highlight it. There’s no point. Similarly the above is not worth highlighting because it doesnt represent the majority of liv fans.

To say that the liverpool fans are scum just because of a few that caused trouble 20 odd years ago is ridiculous and you dont know what you are talking about. Have you ever been to a liverpool game and experienced these so called scum for yourself?

Not really aware of much of a scumbag element in Liverpool support. I think its a silly comparison to compare Celtic fans shouting abuse at rangers or hearts fans (both sets have a significant biggoted element) to heysel though. I have been on celtic forums for many years and have never read Celtic fans threatening violence against other European fans. Not saying that those ‘fans’ who posted on betfair are in anyway representative of Liverpools support but it is purely an observation.

you totally missed the point. read my post, i wasnt comparing that with heysel, i pointing out that there was no point in highlighting it just as there was no point in highlighting what possible liverpool fans are saying on a betfair forum.

Fair enough. My mistake. Apologies for the misinterpretation. Not sure I agree with you that there is no point in highlighting what was said on betfair though.

Nothing against the Liverpool supporters here who are all decent lads (except for gerrardno1) but I had a surreal experience with one of them earlier on tonight. A friend of a friend (from Rosslare, Co. Wexford!!!) who’s apparently ‘Liverpool til he dies’ started a row with me with his only point being, ‘You’re a joke, at least admit you support a British team.’ I looked at him for a while to see was his brain working at all before I realised he was actually serious. I could only laugh when I realised a Liverpool ‘die-hard’ from Rosslare in Wexford in fooking Ireland was having a go at me for supporting a ‘British’ team. Then I explained slowly and carefully why Irish people support Celtic before he came out with his killer rebuke. He said that ‘Liverpool are more Irish than Celtic will ever be’. When I asked him why he said ‘What about all the Irish internationals who have played with Liverpool?’ Honestly, you can’t make this stuff up. I was tempted to give him a history lesson about the famine and how the Irish diaspora arrived in Glasgow and founded Celtic but instead I said, ‘Yeah mate, you probably have a point. Babb, McAteer and all those lads really do prove the Irish origins of your club.’ He looked happy and contented so I left him be while thinking of that ‘Reclaim The Kop’ campaign that was discussed on here. The supporters of the club he claims to be passionate about don’t want him near the ground, yet he stands in front of me talking some of the greatest load of scheidt ever. What a clown.

sadly that sort of attitude appears to be the norm rather than the exception for epl supporters bandage.

had this argument with the pied before. Celtic is a british club no matter what way you wanna look at it. They might have strong irish connections but it is still a british club

Why do certain Liverpool supporters feel the need to question the Irish identity of Celtic supporters and laugh at them for being ‘British’ yet don’t see the irony in themselves following an English team?

Agree entirely Bandage. Insecurity on their part perhaps? These Celtic supporters have a real connection with the club they support, which the vast majority of Liverpool supporters outside of Lancarshire do not.

im not questioning the irish connection and im not laughing at them for being british. I am a celtic supporter myself. Im merely stating a fact that celtic is based in glasgow, which is british, and liverpool fc is based in liverpool, which is also british

But it’s something that always annoys me and for some reason it’s always been Liverpool fans that hold this attitude in my personal experience.

It seems they want to deprive the Irish diaspora in Glasgow of expressing their Irishness. There are thousands of Aiden McGeadys in Scotland - people who come from 2nd and 3rd generation Irish families who’ve been immersed in Irish culture from the day they were born.

British by definition - Scottish by geography - Irish by blood line and at heart. And it’s the same with the club itself. Like there’s 50 million Irish people all around the world yet only 4 million on the island of Ireland itself. The Irish diaspora all around the world proudly display their Irish heritage and celebrate their Irish culture in many forms and there’s not many who do so better than a Celtic crowd in full voice singing their songs of Irish history and rebellion.

Indeed one need only look at Jim O’Brien at Celtic and James McCarthy at Hamilton to see the young lads in Scotland who consider themselves in Irish. The whole British club thing is an irrelevancy. Celtic don’t have a British identity, much like Barcelona don’t consider themselves Spanish, nor do Athletic Bilbao.

I have explained before my reasons for supporting Liverpool. But I do recognise that they have absolutely no connection to Ireland. I don’t necessarily think that there is anything wrong with passionately supporting such a team. Ok it may well have been by accident that I supported them - but I do support them and that is all that matters

I have to say that you come across some dopes with their views about Celtic. I don’t accept that it is all Liverpool fans who hold such opinions.

There are certain people on this forum (one person springs to mind in particular) that have an inferiority complex when it comes to discussions around Celtic, immediately littering every discussion with swipes at the ‘EPL’. Get over yourself will you.

Whose that?
