Revenue Returns, ROS, Taxation and the Self Employed

Nah not really. It’s for a GAA club but clubs don’t have VAT numbers. I’ll give it a go with the PPSN and see what happens.

If the club has a bar or anything like that, they might have some sort of tax number.

Check with the club treasurer, a club can have a tax number without being registered for VAT, a lot of clubs will have tax numbers as they are needed to apply for certain grants and for sports club tax exemption.

This.

Sporting clubs listed here I think

Actually that might not be the list. I’ll look again, there is one out there somewhere iirc

Maybe this one

Q1 tax defaulters list released this morning.

This one made me chuckle:

They trade as taxrebates.ie, absolute cowboys.

I often wondered why people would use these aside from ignorance or laziness.

They prey on the vulnerable & misinformed- their system really is not that much more straightforward than MyAccount.

I had a quick look at their published accounts there, they do very very well out of it. I will say their branding is good.

So why aren’t they paying their tax?

They get the university of Facebook crew

Because they are cowboys.

Taking a percentage of someone’s refund is against pretty much every professional body’s code of ethics but I think they pretty much say straight-up that they are not tax advisors.

Shades of the couple who set up a similar operation in Better Call Saul. Seems to be a lot of people around who are happy to let them have a cut after getting their own refund.
