Sad news breaking just now. The legendary commentator and former Australian captain has died aged 84.
I admired him hugely. This has saddened me.
A decent innings. R.I.P. Richie.
Very sad. R.I.P. Richie.
RIP
that’s very sad news,
i used to enjoy him very much on TMS and also on channel 4’s coverage

RIP
The mrs used to live in the same building as him in Coogee. Based on her first hand knowledge and in her own words “Richie was an Australian icon, big loss. He was a nice man.”
Vale Richie Benaud.
A great playing career, a remarkable playing career when you think about it. Terrific commentator, he always seemed to be fascinated by the future, not interested in embellishing his own past, like so many sports commentators. Intelligent and witty, we couldn’t have asked for more. Not often somone passes who absolutely no one has a bad word about, a true gentleman.

Great guy, loved the 'RA
RIP Richie
“And Glenn McGrath dismissed for two, just ninety-eight runs short of his century"
As close as you get to having a voice of cricket was Richie. A great player too, he was the first man to hit test milestone of 200 wickets and 2000 runs. RIP
Richie was brilliant on Channel 4 back in the day. Himself and Mark Nicholls bring back fond memories.
Voice of summer. Cricket’s micheal o.
If that’s Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh you are referring to, its pretty insulting to Richie’s memory. Richie Benaud was a commentator who had few if any betters in any sport. Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh was largely unintelligible with an annoying tendency to ramble about everything and anything other than what was happening on the field in front of him.
Agree re Richie benaud, but Michael o was peerless.
