Awful defensive performance from Waterford really and this year really did look like being their chance (of getting to the final anyway). Bennis is great craic on the sideline. I loved the way he wasn’t messing about at the end pretending it wasn’t over until the final whistle went. He was jumping up and down hugging guys with a minute left because he knew they’d it won.
Bennis is a complete and utter legend. I read somewhere they have to have his nephew on the line to keep an eye on him and to make sure he stays calm. He was being held back the whole game and spent most of the time leaping around the place with a crazed look in his eyes. Delighted for him.
Was gutted for Waterford for whatever reason. Have no reason to have any allegiance to them but was fierce nervous throughout the game and was leaping about the sitting room myself. O’Shaugnessy is some hurler in fairness. Would love to see Kilkenny get turned over in the final now. Waterford’s defence was poor but I thought it was their poor shooting that really stood out.
I’m speaking with tfk’s management committee about getting Richie Bennis ‘Tis a healthy rivalry, not a dirty rivalry’ t-shirts. What a crazy bogger that man is. Legend.
Was doing some Richie Bennis research there to see what other crazy shit he’s done this year.
After the league game they played away to Tipp during the Spring he was interviewed on the radio by Michael O’Muircheartaigh who asked him how they prepared for it.
Richie replied, ‘We had tae and sangwiches in Burgess on the way down.’
