Road to Wrestlemania XXVI

Whose signing in for RAW tonight?

Shan? Flano? Bandage? ballooba? foley?

I’ll watch the start of it anyway and see how it goes…

Good to see you back Dunph, not signing in myself, haven’t signed in for a few weeks now. Next Monday maybe though…

WWE Hall of Famer Captain Lou Albano has died aged 76.

The American legend had been in poor health since suffering a heart attack in 2005 and was admitted to a hospice last week after his condition deteriorated.
Albano achieved moderate success as a wrestler — winning tag team gold in the 1960s — but was best known for his role as a manager in the WWE.
With his long flowing hair, ponytailed beard and loud shirts, he was instantly recognisable, rising to prominence as he attempted to dethrone long-time world champion Bruno Sammartino.
He achieved that feat in 1971, when Ivan Koloff cleanly pinned Sammartino, ending his record-breaking eight-year reign. The crowd was famously stunned into silence, such was their shock.
Throughout his 42-year involvement in wrestling, Albano carved a prolific legacy by guiding 15 different tag teams and four singles competitors to championship glory.
Albano led Don Muraco, Greg Valentine and Pat Patterson to the Intercontinental title and translated his success as a tag team wrestler into a manager by steering The Valiant Brothers, The Moondogs, Mr Fuji & Mr Saito and The Wild Samoans [Afa & Sika] to the gold.
The 1980s saw the New Yorker become an icon of the “Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Connection” after the WWE left the independent wrestling circuit to take to the national stage.
Albano devised the concept after meeting singer Cyndi Lauper on a flight to Puerto Rico. Lauper asked Albano to play her father in the video for her most famous song, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
In return, the pair feuded in the WWE, with Lauper managing female star Wendi Richter and Albano in the corner of The Fabulous Moolah.
Both Lauper and Albano subsequently appeared at the very first Wrestlemania in 1985 as the crossover made professional wrestling more popular in the mainstream than it had ever been before.
The “Rock ‘n’ Wrestling” fusion continued into the next year as The British Bulldogs — with Captain Lou and Ozzy Osbourne in their corner — beat Valentine & Brutus Beefcake to win their one and only WWE world tag team championship.
Albano’s mainstream celebrity also resulted in appearances in several episodes of the worldwide hit show Miami Vice. He also played the role of Mario in the Super Mario Bros Super Show and was a frequent guest on the game show Hollywood Squares.
The bearded star had one last run in the spotlight in 1994, working with The Headshrinkers [Samu & Fatu, later known as Rikishi] along with his old protg, Afa and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame two years later.
Captain Lou Albano was a truly larger than life character in the single most groundbreaking era of the American professional wrestling industry, and leaves records of achievement that may never be broken.

Remember him managing the Head Shrinkers back in the 90s and being in the Mario Brothers show. Always was a funny guy.

From one Captain to another may he rest peace.

It is with great sadness that I announce my resignation from the WWE, effective January 1, 2010.

I have never even considered a future outside the walls of the WWE. However, sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and while it is the most difficult decision I have ever made, it is time for me to move on.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my father for the incredible education working with him has provided and for giving me the opportunity to play a role in building WWE into the global phenomenon that it is today. I am extremely proud to have been the 4th generation in this business, and I am grateful for everyday I was able to work along side not only my own, but the entire WWE family.

Thank you to all of the WWE Superstars both past and present for your passion, pride and dedication. You are truly the engine of the organization and it has been a pleasure to work with, learn from and get to know all of you. Thank you for the privilege of sharing the stage with you and for allowing me to become but a momentary member of your elite brotherhood. I have so much appreciation for the many sacrifices you endure, both physically and personally, to make this business the success that it is. The respect I have for each of you is immeasurable.

Finally, there are no words to express my gratitude to WWE fans the world over for supporting this company through good times and bad and for your unbridled passion that fuels the Superstars performances. I am profoundly grateful to have been able to entertain you both in front of the camera and from behind the scenes. You are the greatest fans in the world.

I will always love this business and will remain a fan forever.

Shane

Santino’s act is old and he hasn’t been funny in months. I predict he won’t be in WWE this time next year.

Haven’t seen RAW in weeks Dunph, was Rotlisberger any good as the host last week? Also what is the story with

Orton RKOing Di Biase there?

I dunno the guest host is an awful load of shite, I hate watching it, load of bolox.

RAW has gone back a bit alright ballooba and at this stage you could argue that it has become WWE’s 2nd show behind Smackdown. I wouldn’t be surprised if they put Edge on RAW when he returns to shake things up. The main problem with RAW is the title picture is so stale now. It’s essentially Orton v Cena and that’s all there is. HHH is off doing DX stuff now with HBK. They need new stars there quick and the sooner the likes of Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness debut the better. They have made a big effort to push DiBiase and Rhodes in recent months and i feel in the past month especially they’ve really gotten them over. Rhodes in particular has really come into his own recently.

DiBiase looks likely to turn face soon, possibly at Bragging Rights where he costs Orton the title. Basically that segment with Orton and DiBiase is where Legacy have been getting bolder and bolder and are threatening to cut loose from Orton and go their separate ways. Legacy has served it’s purpose now i feel and it is time for them to disband.

McGuinness is the lad Flano was on about from ROH…ya?

Yeah that’s him. WWE have started to snap up the best talent from ROH, thank god. Danielson is another.

This next match should be a cracker hopefully.

He’s a big loss to WWE, hopefully he’ll return when Vince retires (whenever that is :D).

Supposedly, Shane has been onto Vince for some time to go down a more MMA route with WWE which Vince has been against. It would seem Shane may move into that area, maybe even setting up a new company. All speculation mind.

Jericho?
