Can Roma parents legally adopt a child?
The Roma’s in Tallaght have been confirmed as the parents of the child that was taken into custody.
Serious egg on the face of the HSE and the Gardai.

A bizarre story, am I right in saying some randomer posted a suspicion to a Sunday World hacks FB, he notified Guards and HSE and they moved then? Who was this person and what basis had they? In the HSE and Gardaí’s defence, hard to know, damned if you do, damned if you don’t, the birth cert thing if true was surely reason enough to investigate more. A clusterfuck really.
they should fuck off back to Rome
Don’t think that damned if you do, damned if you don’t extends to removing a child from his/her family while you decide you need to verify identity. Very hard to believe it would have played out like that with a white (non-traveller) family.
Agreed, a pure monumental fuck up. They’ll do well to get out of this without serious legal action. They’ll have solicitors queuing up to take the state on for this for them if they wanted. They’d be as well to settle it now if they could and try sweep it under the carpet. I doubt the pavee points of this world will allow that to happen though.
Yea, thats a fair point I guess, as I said, its quite frankly a complete clusterfuck. There’ll be serious fallout.
Could the matter have been dealt with a bit more discreetly initially which would have allowed the Gardaí and HSE to establish some facts before the media were all over it? They had scarcely moved on the matter and it was in the papers. It amazes me how quickly so much information around such matters gets to the media. I know we are in an age where it is difficult to control such information but surely a better fist could be made of it.
Eh the media went to the guards.
yeah? if so fine but do such detail re the case need to be relayed back to the media until firm facts are established??
Does the new legislation for the protection of children cover them here I wonder. Hard to believe they would expose themselves in this fashion without some sort of legal protection.
George Hook was spitting feathers about it this evening. Normally a cunt but fair fucks to him for calling this monumental fuck up as it is
This Roma wan obviously played away on the making of this kid. She’ll probably not want much more word on this.
Will get very ugly for the cops if the international media picks this up. And rightfully so.
International media were reporting the initial removal of the child so you can be sure they will be all over this.
Why? The cops got a complaint, investigated it and dismissed it in short order. Wouldn’t it be worse if they did fuck all about the complaint.
It wasn’t so long ago that you were trying to sully a mans name with untrue child abuse allegations, ya cunt ya.
Nothing wrong with anyone reporting a suspicion like this. But going to a Sunday world reporter on FB and the cops making a big deal is insane.
Embarrassing for Ireland, but not surprising considering the ineptitude of the cops and HSE.

Well i presume the sunday world rang the guards saying are you gonna do something about this, we’ll write it up and complain if you dont, then when they turned up to the house there was obviously major confusion about getting documents for the child and they took her in, im sure they had some lawful authority to do that. Turns out they were wrong but what else could they do, leave the girl with the family waiting for the dna test and it turns out shes an abductee and hey presto shes long gone.
It was TV3 wasn’t it? Some ‘journalist’ named Paul Connolly was eager to claim all the credit for the story yesterday. I wonder if he still wants it.
It’s a crazy story. Someone texts a talk show, and that’s enough for the cops to go into a family’s home and take a kid away from its parents, despite the parents producing a birth cert and a passport. Were they supposed to have DNA evidence to hand as well? If this wasn’t a Roma family a minister would end up resigning over a fuck up of this magnitude.

What would you have suggested the guards have done?
