Ian Wright absolutely worships him in a fairly cringey way. I think he picked him as the best ever Premier league player which is fairly ridiculous. Alan shearer did too though
Is it not considered fairly common knowledge that in the year or so before Saipan that Keane was drinking like a fish and going through a hard patch with his wife? Have heard that from a couple of relatively reliable sources over the years, one or two journalists gave a nod to it a few times without pulling the trigger fully.
Not making excuses for him. We could have waxed into a semi-final with him (especially if he came back quickly and apologised). Fascinating the hold he has over people. He’s a one-off.

I thought he gave up drink after the cruciate ligament with haaland thing. I always imagined saipan was the classic lashing out of the reformed alcoholic who can’t stand to see other people having any fun
