After Keane was sent home from Saipan in 2002 he did an interview with Tommie Gorman. Highlights of the interview were on the rte six one news and then the whole half hour interview was shown later that evening. The interview basically focused on why Keane was sent home and why he behaved as he did in Saipan and would he consider going back to re-join the squad. I have tried you tube but can’t find anything on it does anyone know where i could view it? i would love to see it again.

I’m not sure if the above is all of it but there’s a good 12 minutes there/
Why, may I ask, do you want to see that again?
The most overhyped interview ever
If its to take the piss out of Gorman then fine…
“Take me back???”
That’s my favourite quote of that interview. Still don’t think it’s been long enough to take the p!ss out of it though, still hurts thinking about it. The World Cup is on and our best player is at home walking his dog!!! F**king hell you couldn’t have made it up.
It’s not that it’s that great an interview but it was a seminal moment in Irish tv history. Everybody watched it and it’s probably the most international exposure RTE have ever had.

think it is a very interesting interview to be honest. annoys me watching it even now that keane didn’t play in the world cup. don’t see how the interview has been overhyped when you consider the context. our best player and one of the best players in the world at that time (if not the best) had just been thrown out of the world cup and he is giving his side of the story and there is a chance that he will return to join the squad.
I agree with what you are saying Piper i.e. that potentially it could have been huge. I remember counting the hours down to it, watching it and then wondering ‘what t’hell was the point of that’?
Once he had walked there was no going back realistically - Tommie led us all to believe that he had achieved the unachievable. Going on about the North and stuff - Keane was laughing at him by the end
Haven’t got around to watching this again yet but I recall Tommie pleading, ‘What about the children?’ and Keane was just staring at him thinking ‘fool’.
well after he walked away/thrown out i don’t think that was the end of it to be honest. right at the end gorman asked keane if the other parties (players and manager) were willing to compromise would he and he said he wanted to play for ireland again so yes basically he would. also while using things like the north might seem silly i actually think it helped put the situation in context as in if that can be resolved surely two grown men having a dispute is a stupid thing to stop our best player playing in the biggest football tournament in the world.
