It’s the same for local radio stations. I know someone working in advertising sales for one of the stations up this neck of the woods and he said that the Government stuff kept them going during the first lock down.
This is true, the license fee is also completely outmoded at this stage.
The problem for RTÉ is that they have too far to fall. They should never have been allowed to try and be Ireland’s BBC. Prime commercial assets like 2fm and RTÉ 2 should have been sold off 15 years ago at market peaks and a reorganization done then.
Paddy will do just fine. Nobody in RTE will go public in a row over their finances. They have highly dubious financial practices. And some outrageous legacy contracts for technicians dating back from when pushing the play button on a VCR was a highly technical job.
